Jules Taylor

Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

Light, lemony and acidic. Very fresh and approachable. It's my first jump into NZ wines and I will definitely keep coming back to Jules Taylor wines. — 8 days ago

Villa Wolf

Ernst Loosen Pfalz Pinot Noir Rosé 2023

I’m baaaack! I’m sure no one missed me but I’ve been off the app for a while. Lots of life happening. So. Decided to jump back on due to a new to me Rose’ that I discovered. Germans can make wine! This is a wonderful deck wine with all types of food or by itself to celebrate the end of a long day. Everyone has described this wine spot on. For me though I get a slight hint of cinnamon on the end and the acidity is primo with smoked meats or a nice charcuterie! Love finding new gems! Enjoy. PS. I love this super-chilled but it is good at room temp as well. Thanks for putting up with the amateur!!! — a year ago

Caymus Vineyards

Special Selection Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

A treat to try this 2013 Caymus Special Selection compared to the 2002 one we tried a few nights ago. A completely different style. Dark purplish-black in color. Black plum-cherry fruits jump out of the glass and an aroma of smokey vanilla and floral notes float. Scents of toasty oak and cassis linger. Taste—bold dark berry and cherry fruits full of flavor hit the pallet with vanilla and mocha notes surfacing. Toasty oak licorice and cassis complete the medium plus finish. A big rich wine—nothing shy about it! Easy drinking on this holiday evening. — 5 years ago

Heitz Cellar

Martha's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 1991

Shay A
9.4

Anytime an older Heitz Martha’s is open, it’s a treat. I’ve tried to acquire a few random bottles over the years and they have consistently impressed (‘78 and ‘01, specifically). My first early ‘90s vintage.

Quick double decant to simply get the wine off sediment as it wouldn’t be consumed from a decanter at the location I would be at.

In my experience, the distinct and typical eucalyptus notes jump right at pop, but this bottle was a little subdued early on. After an hour with the cork out, the eucalyptus, herbs, cedar and red fruit made their entrance. Compared to the ‘91 Hartwell I opened a few months ago, this was more elegant and less dense on the mid-palate. If not for the eucalyptus, I could see this being called left bank Bordeaux with 30yrs on it. Gained some darker red/underripe black fruit notes the longer it was open. Beautiful length at the finish. Bright acidity and tannin. Not getting better, but a wonderful drinking window to enjoy now.

Realm Cellars

The Tempest Napa Valley Red Blend 2015

Shay A
9.4

I’ve been a fan of Realm for quite a while, but this was the first time I’ve opened their merlot driven wine, Tempest.

95% merlot, 5% Cabernet. Inky dark red/black in the glass. Fresh baked mixed berry pie notes jump from the glass along with espresso, dark chocolate and baking spices. Astoundingly silky and elegant on the palate. While this is certainly a bigger expression than most merlot, it still has classical merlot notes at the core…black cherry with beautifully lifted profile. Rich red, blue and black fruits, cocoa, and graham cracker. The finish has great acidity and fine grained tannins. A very sexy expression of merlot. Fantastic!

@Tom Garland : Indeed it is! I think I have 1-2 left. I picked up 4-6 when visiting them a few years ago. Decanted it for an hour…it needed 2-3! So youthful.

@Paul T- Huntington Beach : I think it’s an early drinker, but wouldn’t hurt to hold it for a bit.

The Stump Jump McLaren Vale Shiraz 2021

This is pretty wild stuff. So much fresh-cut-wet-grass on the nose. Very tart, cranberry, raspberry, savory meat underneath, wooly bully tannins.

Diamond Creek Vineyards

Gravelly Meadow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1999

1999 Vintage! Color — dark garnet with hues of bricking. On the nose: plum, currants and perfume jump from the glass giving the wine its sweet age cab initial aromas followed by scents of stewed meat, earthy spices and a smoky wood cedar at the end. Taste: soft and elegant. Fruits have blended where plum and blueberry notes have integrated and currants are more faded. Secondary notes - pencil lead, tobacco, gravel and black tea follow with a tannic kick the end giving it a medium plus finish. A nice bottle to share this Valentines Day. — 4 years ago

Cannonau di Sardegna 2018

Spiced meaty notes on the nose upon first opening, like stewed red peppers and beef. Elves into juicier riper red fruit notes as it breathes. Cooked plums and cherries. Bright vibrant young meaty cherry and blueberry fruits jump onto the palate with kalamata olive undertones and plentiful acid. Balanced with a body and mid palate that is complimented by both introductory and finishing flavors and sensations. — 5 years ago
