Ernst Loosen Pfalz Pinot Noir Rosé 2023

I’m baaaack! I’m sure no one missed me but I’ve been off the app for a while. Lots of life happening. So. Decided to jump back on due to a new to me Rose’ that I discovered. Germans can make wine! This is a wonderful deck wine with all types of food or by itself to celebrate the end of a long day. Everyone has described this wine spot on. For me though I get a slight hint of cinnamon on the end and the acidity is primo with smoked meats or a nice charcuterie! Love finding new gems! Enjoy. PS. I love this super-chilled but it is good at room temp as well. Thanks for putting up with the amateur!!! — 3 months ago

Piero Mancini

Cannonau di Sardegna 2018

Spiced meaty notes on the nose upon first opening, like stewed red peppers and beef. Elves into juicier riper red fruit notes as it breathes. Cooked plums and cherries. Bright vibrant young meaty cherry and blueberry fruits jump onto the palate with kalamata olive undertones and plentiful acid. Balanced with a body and mid palate that is complimented by both introductory and finishing flavors and sensations. — 4 years ago

Freiherr von Heddesdorff

Von Heddesdorff Trocken Riesling 2018

Pears jump out immediately (green, Asian), with underripe honeydew, Granny Smith skin, wet stones. Mouth watering acidity coats the palate and spreads the pear flavors everywhere. The minerality hits at the end. Pairs well with soy, ginger, scallion and sesame white fish. — 4 years ago

Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

Happy Mother's Day part 2!!! 1.5 hour decant (lots of fine/chunky sediment). A bewitching dark crimson color with a little bricking. On the nose: aromas jump from the glass..blackberry, cedar, pine, spice, currents, hint of vanilla/chocolate. Taste: plum, that COS spice, cedar, pencil lead, a raspberry chocolate finish. A rich wine with elegant and sweet mostly resolved tannins...in its drinking window with plenty of time to go.....a wine showing components for aging beautifully!

A special bottle for us...holding a 6 liter for our son's 21st b-day in 4 years.

Agree. COS develops such great flavors as they age!

Estate Vineyards Les Pavots Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2005

2008 vintage. From the Knights Valley AVA (Sonoma). A blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot. Very impressive. Ripe blackberry fruit, spices, and truffles jump out of the glass. Powerful and elegant at the same time with layers of black fruit, great balancing acidity, haute couture tannins, and a very, very long finish. Irresistible now, but this should age well for decades. Abv. 14,5%. — a year ago

Caymus Vineyards

Special Selection Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

A treat to try this 2013 Caymus Special Selection compared to the 2002 one we tried a few nights ago. A completely different style. Dark purplish-black in color. Black plum-cherry fruits jump out of the glass and an aroma of smokey vanilla and floral notes float. Scents of toasty oak and cassis linger. Taste—bold dark berry and cherry fruits full of flavor hit the pallet with vanilla and mocha notes surfacing. Toasty oak licorice and cassis complete the medium plus finish. A big rich wine—nothing shy about it! Easy drinking on this holiday evening. — 4 years ago

Vent d'Ange Chablis Chardonnay 2015

Can’t get enough of this natty Chablis. Meyer lemon and tart apple jump out of the glass. The finish wipes the palate clean and draws you in for another sip. — 4 years ago

Diamond Creek Vineyards

Gravelly Meadow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1999

1999 Vintage! Color — dark garnet with hues of bricking. On the nose: plum, currants and perfume jump from the glass giving the wine its sweet age cab initial aromas followed by scents of stewed meat, earthy spices and a smoky wood cedar at the end. Taste: soft and elegant. Fruits have blended where plum and blueberry notes have integrated and currants are more faded. Secondary notes - pencil lead, tobacco, gravel and black tea follow with a tannic kick the end giving it a medium plus finish. A nice bottle to share this Valentines Day. — 3 years ago

Pietranera

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015

A vibrant cherry red in the glass with little traces of violet. Intense, beautiful nose. Starts off with dark cherry and blackberry aromas early but soon brings in the earthy notes. Dried grass, moist earth, and gravel all over this. Cedar and mocha jump out at you. Just a wonderfully flawless nose.

Yes, it’s young. Yes, you should probably wait. No, I will not. Drinking splendidly right now. This is exactly what you want from a good Brunello, the combination of power and elegance. Full bodied with firm-ish tannins and high acidity. But still so reserved and graceful.

The palate closely follows the nose with more of those cherry and blackberry notes, along with some stewed plums and just a hint of sun dried tomato. Mushrooms and moss stand out with leather and tobacco are really nice here. Spice and cedar on the long, splendid finish. Drink this now. Go buy a bunch and drink them every year.
