Bastion de la Luna Tintos de Mar Rias Baixas Red Blend 2015

Blend of equal amounts of local red grapes; Caino, Espadeiro and Loueiro, Ruby red color with aromas of red fruits, herb, floral and cigar box notes. On the palate flavors of cherry and raspberry with tobacco, oak and garden herbs. Medium+ finish, chalky tannins, savory, ending with herbs, spice, cedar and slight fruit, savory. Nice, will continue to age. — 2 years ago

Old Garden Vineyard Mourvedre 2013

Powerful wine that went well with my Georgian lamb. Too strong to drink alone. But perfect with steak or lamb. Powerful nose with strong brooding flavors. — 3 years ago

20 Applegate Valley Syrah 2012

My wife commented that this had too much color and heft, given its age.
Deep, vibrant purple. Intense plummy fruit bouyed w warm toasted aromas that conjure vanilla, cumin, toasted oak. Dense, fleshy, long, with resolved tannins that still offer plenty of structure and elegant acidity. Among the best domestic, 'natural' wines I've had.

At 20 years of age, this shows graceful maturity. Aromas of dried plum, fig, cedar, and mocha unfold alongside leather and warm spice and hint of purple floral. The palate is supple and harmonious, with resolved tannins and a gentle acidic lift that keeps the wine poised. Savory hints of olive and earth add complexity. The smooth finish feels settled and complete.

A bottling from Langhorne Creek and one Two Hands no longer produces. Would be fun to taste all the Garden series bottling side by side.

First, if you haven’t had this producers wines at 15-20 years of age, you’re missing some spectacular juice. I bought this at auction for $38-$40 a bottle and because I was unaware of its storage, I was prepared to short decant it. Well…until I pulled the cork, smelled it and saw the color. This nearly 20 year old bottling is still big but with nice integration & evolution. I would say it has another 5-8 years of good life in it.

The palate fruit is ruby, ripe and lush; blackberries, boysenberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, black plum. Mid berry cola, dark chocolate to pudding, mocha powder, wet clay, light, black pepper, Asian spice, dry-ish tobacco, black licorice, some dry herbs-sage dominate, limestone, dry top soil, dry brush, used leather, sandlewood, fresh to slightly withering, dark, purple, red florals set/framed in violets and lavender. The acidity is near perfect. The well balanced, structured, knitted finish is excellent and lingers minutes. Steal for the price. Another excellent gourmet burger wine. Kings Row Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2015

Deep garnet. Oak and dark fruit on the nose. Hour decant and still a bit tight but yet still very smooth and well structured. Red and black fruit. Tannins silky smooth with nice long finish. Beautiful wine! After another hour this wine was hitting its stride! So good!! — 4 years ago

Garden Series Limestone Coast Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Medium ruby in color; oregano, green bell pepper, and black cherries on the nose; medium minus acidity; medium plus tannins; tastes like cherries, eucalyptus, and wet gravel with a long finish. Nellie says it's ok. I'm enjoying the unique aromas and flavors. — 3 years ago

Rock Garden Syrah 2014

Soft fruit, some bacon, smoked meat, & herbs. Not very complex. Lovely BBQ wine. Unlike many WA syrah, not an alcoholic fruit bomb. However, terrible QPR for the level of vinous complexity on offer. — 4 years ago
