Plum, cherry, leather, and a bit of spice scents lead to flavors of black raspberries, black cherry, and leather. A bit lighter, and higher acidity than what I'd expect from most cabs. I would think this had an Italian varietal blended in, but there is no mention of anything other than cab on the label.

Garnet red. Red berries and some floral notes. Some earthy and dirt/dust notes too. Moderate tannins (7/10) with moderate plus acidity. Great texture and medium bodied. Dried cherries, savory notes and herbs on the palate. Super long finish, dry and some metallic notes in the finish. Drink till 2022. — 10 years ago

Nosiola in Trentino. One of the best and most surprising wines of the trip. Called this one in a blind tasting (pats self on back) ok, well, there were only 3 options for variety, but the vintage was my triumph.
Nosiola is a bit of a chameleon. In warmer vintages (like most recent ones), it’s more floral with lower acid. But when it’s great, it can age like a great white burgundy with that hazelnutty mersault quality and savory notes. The rest of the group guessed the wine was 5-7 years old but the deep color and ethereal texture made me think it was older. — 3 years ago

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2018 “Il Rosso delle Donne” pours a garnet color with a translucent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and tart, mostly red fruits: Morello cherry, raspberries, strawberry, roses, a whiff of horse blanket, red rope licorice, dried green herbs, and dry gravel. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is a slightly wild but positively gorgeous example of a Nebbiolo-based blend from Alto Piemonte. There’s an old school feel about this that completely charms the heart. Too bad there is so little of it: the entire Boca DOC has less than 50 acres planted to vine. Castello Conti only made 3912 bottles of this gem. Drink now through 2048+. — a year ago
