Nose has decaying leaves, dried black cherry, distant new shower curtain, slight cow pasture, Maraschino cherry, unopened Bandaid and very slight eucalyptus.
Palate has ripe black cherry, dried blackberry, plum skin, cedar sawdust, blueberry seed, slightly drying on the medium finish and mild acidity remaining.
Not what we generally expect from C-M (our favorite village), but doing acceptably for a Sunday night bottle, peaceful.
2 hour decant, very...stinky on cork pull.

Xinomavro made from a single block on the Amyndeon plateau 647 m above sea level. Amyndeon is from my understanding cooler than the more recognised Naoussa region close by. Some modern winemaking practises here like cold soaking has resulted in an extracted wine with a medium body and a less tannic finish. Nice spicy aromatics, expressive midpalate and a medium long finish. — 3 years ago
My first time trying the 2016 vintage. This bottle was opened about 90min before service. The wine pours a deep garnet, fading to magenta, with a watery rim. It has a slightly turbid appearance and a nearly opaque core with slight, staining of the tears. On the nose, holy whole cluster city Batman! This Moulin-à-Vent is not faking the funk on a nasty dunk. Notes of dark fruit, curry, cheese rind, wet asphalt, and minerals. Fabulous acid and medium+ tannin. The finish is long, lingering, and slightly green. I fell in love with Thibault’s wines from M-à-V with the 2010 vintage and I’ve been smitten ever since. They are among the most exciting wines made in the Cru today. In 3-5 years, these will really slap. — 4 years ago

The first audible of the night was this stunning 2015 Hubert Lignier M-S-D 1er VV that John pulled out in between the Rabbit and Beef courses. Full disclosure, I get twitterpated when a bottle of H. Lignier gets opened. There’s just something in the style that’s mesmerizing across the range, from the Passetoutgrain to the Clos de la Roche. These are wines of power and grace. Well fruited but with layers of complexity. John considers this to be the best value of H. Lignier’s offerings. Hard to argue. — 7 years ago

Vintage 2010 | I cannot recall drinking this Château Thivin before. I was blown away with this twelve year old Côte de Brouilly, that I tasted next to Bordeaux CS/M and Argentinian CS. At the first sniff I thought it to be passed away… but with aeration - I tried from several bottles with a barbecue - it opened up and made a methamorphosis from frog to princess. Beautiful blackberry and other red fruit. Vibrant taste, not showing its age. Drinking supple and giving much joy. Song of praise for Gamay! — 4 years ago

17 at first, I thought the fruit was partly gone. But then the wine expanded. It’s a rustic Cornas, needs venison or something similar. Better second day. M+ length. — 6 years ago
