Mosconi Barolo Nebbiolo 2020

2020 vintage. Tasted with the winemaker. Last tasted 10.02.24 (9.1). This definitely picked up steam. Medium-heavy body. Occupying an interesting space in bringing some structure but more fruit/voluptuousness than expected from the region. Rated same vintage, same producer Cannubi effort a 9.5 but that was even more over the top. This has slightly more restraint and, priced at $90 a bottle resto cost, is better value. Wouldn't expect to age this vintage the usual 20-30 years for Barolo as it's currently a PNP. Would pick up three bottles...one for now. One to drink in 2035 and another to crack in 2050 for giggles. 02.07.25. — 16 days ago

15 year old fruits as if they where picked yesterday. Firm but friendly tannines, tar, roses and campfire ash. Deep, compelling and complex. Outstanding! — 4 months ago

Basarin Barbaresco Nebbiolo

2016 Riserva Barbaresco.
Bright, shiny ruby red.
The nose of this wine is so floral….dark violets, roses and wild herbs.
Ripe black cherries, tobacco, truffles and mushrooms with a hint of menthol on the finish.
Bright, vibrant acidity pairs with close grained tannins to give a smooth, elegant finish.
We had mushroom risotto with black truffles with this wine.

Vigna La Miccia Marsala Superiore Oro Grillo 2018

Delectable Wine
9.4

Dreamy is the word that comes to mind as the 2018 Vigna la Miccia Marsala Superiore Oro wafts up with a decadent blend of roasted almonds and hazelnuts, complicated by gingery spice and baked peaches. This opens with a pretty inner sweetness and oily textures that are perfectly offset by notes of spiced citrus, cloves, cedar and a bitter tinge of coffee grounds. It cleans up beautifully, ridiculously long and staining yet still fresh, leaving hints of cocoa and butterscotch to linger on the finish. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2024)
