2013 Bevan Moaveni "Ode To M" Syrah. A tribute to my friend and idol Manfred Krankl, the bottle was gifted to me by my great friend @DAG , a man whose heart and generosity is almost as big as his mustache. But back to the wine, camphor, berries and licorice on the nose. The palate is an explosion of sweet blueberry compote with notes of barbecued meats and lavender. Super, super rich. Incredibly pure. Endless finish. A beautiful tribute that I'll not soon forget. Thanks Dag! — 8 years ago
State of Brewing, Holiday Lager, Waunakee, Wisconsin. Aldi advent calendar 2023.
Unexpectedly brown-amber lager with cappuccino-colored head, porcini-pored. Melting mustache lacing devolves to pointillist raven. Spicy nose of cinnamon and nutmeg, allspice, toffee and brown sugar. Elements of palate mirror the nose, including notes of dried lemon peel, cedar and sweet tobacco. Regal.

Nose of oak and plums. Taste jammy with fruits of black berry, cherries and plums. Mustache is a plus 1. — 9 years ago
Picture a large, elderly man, with wild hair and a big mustache, grinning. That was this wine. The fruit was full if subdued and there was heavy moss and bark and tannins on the back end. We opened it before dinner and I felt it was almost too earthly but once we started eating it melded perfectly with the food. Nice expression of sangiovese. — 9 years ago
Nose is a bit quiet. Super mineral and airy but seems closed. Palate has it all but it also seems closed. Lemony. Lime. Huge blast of minerals. But seems awkward and super closed. This wine is like some kid in early puberty wither the skeezy mustache as the only gasp of facial hair. Will revisit.
UPDATE - wow. 8.9 to 9.3. What clarity, grip and minerality. Gorgeous elegance and sweet minerals. Awesome. Air just made this magical. — 5 years ago
How could I drink this and not post it? I wanted to be a hater, but was happy to have a very good wine change my tune. The Rhone and Burgundy meet in this low alcohol, spicy, expensive oak kissed, dark fruited bottle. Nice with chicken and with a real future ahead of it. No waxed mustache 21 and a half year old sommelier comments... — 8 years ago
This is a classic Bill Fevre Chablis. The medley of starfruits and almonds would make Wilford Brimley's mustache quiver. Enjoy this over a bed of poorly shucked oysters and an e.coli ridden Chipotle burrito. The last sip of the bottle is like a Stanley Kubrick film - slow but surprisingly erotic. Producer is a god. Bottler is the antichrist.

Feels like tiny little bulls are dancing the tango on your tastebuds. Don’t worry, the bulls are wearing tuxedos and one of them has a mustache. He’s very distinguished. — 6 months ago
