Rails Nap

The Ojai Vineyard

Santa Barbara County Syrah 2010

2010! Probably buried in the basement the entire time. I was expecting a dead bottle. I am actually glad I didn’t open it in 2013. This bottle has plenty of life today and surely can go for a longer nap. Peak? Maybe. Cheers! — a month ago

Abreu Vineyards

Cappella Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2007

Abreu....really needs + 10 years to shine. A 1.5 hour decant. A glorious deep murky dark burgundy color with just a little bricking. On the nose: Kaboom! Big nose of dark cherry/plum, funky stewed meat, cassis, sweet mocha, wet forest floor, and a slight menthol. Taste: Buckle up and hold on to the guard rails!!! A creamy, rich, layered full body wine with dark cherry, chocolate, cassis, minerals, and a long earthy cedar finish. In its drinking window, pop one if you got em. Cheers! — 4 years ago

Krupp Brothers

The Doctor Napa Valley Red Blend 2004

2004 vintage. Decanted with very little sed and tasted after 45 mins and 1.5 hours. Initial richness in the frontal palate but the mid-palate decided to nap. Finish glided along without speed bumps. Really nice but not great. 7.19.24. — 7 months ago

Colheita Seleccionada Dão Red Blend 2017

Something changed in my deepest thoughts. Crank, crushing crusts. And stuffing. Sometimes I feel like I'm going to take a nap. — 4 years ago

Ridge Vineyards

Three Valleys Sonoma County Zinfandel Blend 2017

ESF
8.9

Not sure if Draper is still making these wines, but Ridge has been so consistent & solid over the years... and this affordable kitchen sink blend is delicious: dark & rich, big extraction here w/mouth coating tannins and gobs of brambly red & black berry fruit. Def some oak in this bad boy, hi ABV as well. Bit unruly right now - probably needs a nap for a few years. — 4 years ago

St. Reginald Parish

Disco Nap Willamette Valley Trousseau Gris Pinot Gris

Power nap of Pinot Gris and Chardonnay - utterly awesome. Easy on the eyes and deep inside. Restorative and stimulating.

Big and sturdy from time in oak. Blood oranges, green herbs, peanut brittle, and Palo Santo. The weirdest mix of wonderful things.

Quinta do Noval

Vintage Port Nacional 1962

1962 vintage. Decanted and tasted immediately and over the course of two hours. As with all of these older vintage port corks, a Durand is a helpful "suggestion" but a funnel with a fine filtering screen is essential. Wowzers. Plenty grippy on the back end and drinking as if awakened from a nap-guilty as charged. Needs another 15 years to “let it go.” Remarkable complexity. Holy bleep. Thanksgiving 11.23.23. — a year ago

Domaine du Pegau

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2016

A star in the making. Let your bottles nap for a decade. Fruit forward, almost jammy, but the complexity is there, lurking beneath the surface. Undercurrents of garrigue and intrigue. Go get some and test your patience. — 4 years ago

Syrah 2008

Fantastic Syrah from Washington. This was an excellent year and it has yielded the goods after a 12-yr nap. Dark fruit, baking spice and a hint of undergrowth. — 4 years ago
