Caves Ropiteau Frères — Chassagne-Montrachet Chardonnay 2020 — Côte d’Or, Burgundy. France 🇫🇷
Overview:
A beautifully crafted white Burgundy showing poise, complexity, and finesse from the heart of Chassagne-Montrachet, crafted entirely from Chardonnay. The wine balances refined oak influence with vibrant fruit purity and stony tension, delivering a classic Côte de Beaune expression that feels both immediately charming and quietly age-worthy.
Aromas & Flavors:
Refined vanilla, lemon zest, buttered toast, ripe stone fruits, subtle hazelnut, and a clean thread of crushed stone minerality.
Mouthfeel:
Dry and layered with polished texture, medium+ acidity keeping the palate lifted and precise. Subtle oak frames citrus, apricot, and a touch of honey through a long, elegant finish with excellent balance and clarity.
Food Pairings:
Roast or cream-finished poultry, lobster or crab with drawn butter, scallops in beurre blanc, creamy pasta sauces, aged Comté or Gruyère.
Personal Pick:
This is the kind of Burgundy I reach for when I want quiet luxury in the glass — refined, composed, and endlessly drinkable without shouting for attention. Beautiful now, but absolutely one I’d happily cellar a few bottles to watch it evolve.
Verdict:
Sophisticated, layered, and textbook Chassagne character. A strong buy for lovers of structured yet graceful white Burgundy with real aging potential.
🍷 Did You Know?:
Chassagne-Montrachet is one of Burgundy’s rare villages that excels equally in both red and white wines, yet its limestone-rich soils and gentle slopes consistently deliver some of the world’s most age-worthy and mineral-driven Chardonnay expressions.

A little on the dry side. Not much scent. Light fruit flavor. Very drinkable though — 2 years ago
1976 vintage. Suspect and completely saturated aging cork. Decanted for giggles. Color definitely yellow but not golden. No sed but rationalized the juice needing space to spread wings. Medium body. Surprisingly, still viable acidity. Big, initial hazelnut component got next chapter religion and morphed into macadamia nut after 45 mins. Some marzipan on the ripe finish. 10.14.23. — 2 years ago
Light dry and not too sweet. — 4 years ago

Light smooth and fruity. Paired very well with some buttery salmon. Nothing to write home about when paired with aged cheese, but not bad. — 8 months ago
