One of my first lessons of Syrah, it's ok without food, but you must really drink this with food. It opens the door for "graphite" minerality and graceful fruit. Really good balance.... With food... — 5 years ago
After selling grapes to a number of wineries, in the 90's Fritz Stuhlmuller decided to put the family's name on a label, to produce small lots of Chard & Cab. Located a stone's throw from Chalk Hill and the RRV. Aromas of fruit and toasty oak spice. On the palate pear, apple and hints of peach with citrus notes and nice round oaky tones. Medium+ finish ending with a creamy mineral edge. — 8 years ago
I’ll tell ya what, if you ever get promoted and your sister gives birth in the same day this is the perfect special occasion wine to celebrate with. My mouth feels like my soul feels while FaceTiming with a newborn infant that shares 50% of the same DNA as me. The baby can only hope it ages as well as this world class wine I found in a tasting room a stone’s throw away from the Sonoma town square. Pairs well with a Cosmos marathon. — 8 years ago

Pulled up to the wine store . It’s 80 degrees . There door is open . Oh no . They clearly aren’t supporters of keeping wine at a constant temp . What can I do I am desperate and there isn’t another wine store around for miles. This bottle catches my eye but it’s a 2013 how good could it still be not being treated right in this open door wine store . To my surprise it was delicious . Caramel. Cashews . Great color . Harvest fall apples. What a great surprise . — 9 years ago
Awesome wine. Hopefully I can buy more here in Madison vs traveling to Door County! — 9 years ago
1 hour decant(little fine/cloudy sediment). A breathtaking dark magenta color. On the nose: jumping from the glass are stewed cherries/plum, herbaceous, licorice, roasted meat, earth, touch of menthol. Taste: elegant, juicy, velvety wine with dark cherry, pepper, chocolate, cedar, and a anise/tobacco medium plus finish. From the Sonoma side of the Mayacamas mtns. Purchased on a recent visit...beautiful indoor/outdoor tasting room featuring their small production wines. If you want to throw down some serious change they offer a terrific multi course food and wine pairing in the underground cellar. — 3 years ago

Dégustation à l’aveugle de 5 pinots. Très frais, un fruité engageant, se boit facilement, un délice sans montrer la complexité des autres. Mon no 4 et un beau pirate pour déjouer le panel qui l’a choisi no 3.
Blind tasting of 5 Pinots. Fresh with generous fruit, drinks easy and delicious without showing the complexity of other’s. My no 4 and a nice pirate to throw off the panel which close it no 3. 90-91

17’ Château Boswell True Course Chardonnay. Sourced from the 1/3 of each Rued, Ritchie, & Sebastopol Vineyards in Sonoma County.
Melka with a home run Chardonnay!
Wow... this Chardonnay is playing in the deep end. Full- body to say the least. Pear, peach, honeycomb. Perfect amount of acidity/minerality from the center of the palate to the back. Top 10 bottles of California Chardonnay I’ve had this year.
Edit - Throw this into a decanter for a short period of time. — 6 years ago
Medium garnet with light violet rim. Nosing some cherries, raspberry and a little 'shroom in the mix. Lively with tannic structure lots of fruity cherry flavor. Should go well with a baby 'bells mushroom and melty jack cheese tart and a chopped salad. Don't applaud. Throw money! — 8 years ago
This showed up at my door and I’m happy it did. J Vineyards continues to please me. There is a richness of aroma and lightness of body that pleases, much like me. Light and fragrant. Not really I rarely wear perfume because wine. But this wine is quite elegant. It’s the socialite who envelopes you in a tender hug and you get a whiff of their spicy perfume and a sweep of their velvet cape and a small thrill from interacting with them. Simple and pretty. Ps I don’t think I’ve ever hugged a velvet-caped socialite but I’ve been manhandled by cloaked goths who have been smoking cloves. Same diff? — 8 years ago
St. Estèphe, literally a stone's throw from the more prestigious Paulliac region, while not topping its sister commune by any means certainly holds its own. Huge initial notes include cassis, black currant, and anise followed by some of the largest tannins I've tasted in a wine this young. Great wine from a lesser well-known commune. 💥 for 💵 — 9 years ago
Medium dark to lurid red... soft forest floor, sour Door County cherry, soft baseball-glove leather on the nose. Soft, silken attack with tannis resolved but enough acidity to keep the wine alive. Nice example of 40 year old Nebbiolo that sings with some of the best pasta on earth. Bravo! — 8 years ago
Dense purple. Prune, raspberry, spice and a hint of mint and veg in nose. Layers of cherry flavor with length followed by a hefty dose of fine grained seed tannin and black currant. Tart citric-cherry-cranberry finish with white and black pepper notes. Front of tongue astringency in aftertaste. Just drinkable now, but could benefit from a day of decanting or another 5-10 years of aging. Special, especially for those partial to Cali Petit Sirah — 8 years ago
2013 vintage in 2018 - wonderful! — 8 years ago
Great Pinot right from the start. Tart Door County cherry with intensity of Pommard. — 9 years ago
