First English bubbs and it was very nice. Color super vibrant! Strawberry and rhubarb, pretty dry. — 2 years ago

Another candidate in the 41 wine lineup at the Downs Club tasted blind. Unlike many of the other candidates which had ripe black fruits from 2018, this had notes of dried meat and charcuterie. Full bodied - more savoury than fruit driven. Spinifex is a boutique Barossa producer. Winemaker is the Kiwi star, Peter Schell. Very Good. — 3 years ago
Pear and apple notes on nose and palate - a touch of ginger. M+ intensity on the medium bodied palate - low acid. Coincidentally, last night I was at the Yalumba dinner at the Downs Club and sitting near Louisa Rose, ex winemaker and now Ambassador for Yalumba. Nobody in Australia would know more about the Viognier grape than Louisa. Yalumba pioneered its use and “The Virgilius” would be the leading example in Australia but this Clonakilla is also outstanding. — a year ago
Long acids. Very good. Bought from a great little wine shop in Petworth in the South Downs here in the UK, just after having a fantastic lunch at a spot called E. Street Bar & Grill which is a terrible name for an absolutely exemplary little bistro with great seafood and wine. And with the perfect slightly surly but extremely accommodating and professional French maitre d. Anyway, if you happen to pass through check it out. — 2 years ago
Another candidate in the 41 wine list tasted blind at the Downs Club. Brief notes. Very dense in colour with a crimson rim. Rich and full bodied from a great producer showing those lovely ripe fruits from the 2018 vintage. Hard not to like. Turkey Flat has some of the oldest vines in the Barossa. — 3 years ago
The 4th wine at the Louis Roederer dinner at the Downs Club on Friday night. A blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay. Interestingly the Pinot vineyards are south facing and the Chardonnay vineyards are north facing. The Pinot asserts itself in the aroma with red fruits with yellow fruits from the Chardonnay. The palate incorporates these aromatics and is fresh, exhibiting power and energy. A great future here and already mouthwatering. — 2 years ago
Even better than the brut! Though It’s partly fermented in oak it’s quite pleasantly reductive on the nose, starting with struck match, and Chablis-like light florals and citrus with hints of mandarin peel. The palate is focused and acid driven, with lingering Meyer lemon and minerality. It would be hard for me not to mistake it for a well made Mesnil — 2 years ago
From the 41 wine lineup tasted blind at the Downs Club to find the new Members Premium Red - this was a late entry at No. 41. My brief notes when tasted blind “Sweet Red Fruited Perfume. A mid weight balanced palate with lovely ripe black fruits. I like this. “ In my top 5 from the initial tasting. Unfortunately not much love from the other tasters present much to their dismay when its identity was revealed. A high quality blind tasting as most of the candidates came from the excellent 2018 vintage. 65% Shiraz, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, 3% Merlot. — 3 years ago
