North Coast Part 1: Napa Valleyโs Incredible 2016sโฆ
โThe 2016 Tench Vineyard EE Red Wine checks in as a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Merlot, which is the smallest amount of Cabernet Franc to date. Brought up in new barrels, it has gorgeous blue fruits, violets, spring flowers, and damp earth. Medium to full-bodied, elegant, and just about as seamless and silky as it gets, this is a magical wine to drink over the coming 15 years or more.โ โ 8 months ago
Decanted 1+hrs but needs more like 3-4. Grape Now & Laters and lots of alcohol on the nose. Palate contains dark cherries with some herbs. Wine improved vastly with time. Medium depth and finish. Below expectations, but age and a longer decant may change that. โ 2 months ago

4th of the K Laz tasting - this is the Lillian John blend - maybe itโs too young but find it very thin - apparently next door to Screaming Eagle but pretty sure this is a very pale imitation - nose is slightly off, good fruit but again on the sour side โ 3 months ago
2022 vintage. Great vineyard but too lush and without the underpinnings that it usually provides in a Tench Vineyard interpretation. Not a fan of this style for this price with the TRB handshake relative to the multitude of Napa Cabs/Tench Vyd efforts in this same relative $ range. Underwhelming. 10.09.24. โ 3 months ago
This wine is exceptionally smooth and fruit forward with relatively high residual sugar. I donโt know if itโs as magical as the 2016, but Iโve also recently been spoiled by the Bevan Tench EE Oakville. $99. โ 3 years ago

We drink lots of very good wine. This one is exceptional. Great balance of Bordeaux fruit, which still has room to grow in the bottle. Best wine consumed in 2024 (so far)๐. โ 20 days ago
