Vega Sicilia started purchasing Toro vineyards in 1997 but didn’t release Pintia until ‘01. 100% Tinta de Toro, thick-skinned clone of Tempranillo, beautiful color, complex aromas of fruit & floral spice. Aged, 18 months, French & American oak, 15% stainless due to very dry year. On the palate pronounced fresh dark berry fruit flavors, smoky oak notes, well balanced with acidity. I generally like canary island reds ie listan negro quite a bit. This one veered a bit too austere for me. Some nice refined dark fruit and a lot of peppery herbs. Mouthfeel and finish are slightly thin, but the acid is certainly there and this still feels complete and well made. Just not quite giving enough. — a month ago
