La Vieille Ferme (Perrin & Fils)

La Vieille Ferme Rosé Blend 2019

All kinds of green garden aroma, strawberry, and light cherry on the nose... On the palate, this is very much alive with flavors of raspberry, strawberry, maybe nectarine. Floral scents pop through as well. Make no mistake about it... This is cheap and cheerful, but the very best of cheap and cheerful. We buy this a lot. Try the red and the white as well. They are all tremendous at this price category. Perrin is a name we see a lot of in our area, and for those interested in trying the rest of their range, I encourage that. Many years ago, I used this house's wines as my introduction to the characteristic styles of the different villages in the southern Rhone. I guess that's why I feel connected to the house even in their cheaper expressions. This rose wine pairs well with so many foods with its acidity, so it makes a great go-to. Buy it by the bottle. Buy it by the box. — 5 years ago

Brut Rosé Champagne Chardonnay Blend

The White Burgundy was excellent but, still have to have my BSR 375ml. It’s been awhile for us.

It is a little better tonight following the Burgundy & soft white cheese.

The nose on this bottle really flows out of the glass tonight. Beautiful lean fruits of; blackberries, black cherries, cherries, strawberries, watermelon near the rind, blood orange, orange & tangerine & some pomegranate. Crisp volcanic minerals, saline, sea fossils, baguette crust, vanillin, whiff of caramel, soft white spice, pink flowers and rose pedals.

Everything on the palate sings just a little louder tonight as well. Fruits are even a little richer than normal. Ripe & slightly gummy not as normal leaner fruits of; blackberries, black cherries, cherries, strawberries, watermelon near the rind, blood orange, orange & tangerine & some pomegranate. Crisp and grippy, volcanic minerals, beautiful softer, powdery chalkiness w/o quite the sharper edge it normally has, soft, hints of Provence herbs, saline, sea fossils, baguette crust, vanillin, whiff of caramel, soft white spice, pink flowers and rose pedals. The acidity is crisp, lively and dead on as alway. The long, rich, well balanced finish is deliciously refreshing and persists minutes.

My ‘ house’ wine shared w friends & paired with baked Cod & Roquefort sauce, roasted vegetables, & barley. Pretty in color & on the palate: rusted rose hips, some distant forest floor. Medium plus acidity but enough to cut through the Roquefort sauce, & low enough tannins to not spar with the cod. — 4 years ago

Cuvée Elisabeth Salmon Brut Rosé Champagne 2007

🏅Rating 92/100 (4,2⭐)

I always struggle with rose champagnes. Somehow they don't convince me and almost never justify the price tag. But there are a few which I am satisfied with.

Cuvee Elisabeth is definitely in my top list. Its first vintage is 1988 and was created as a counterpart to another prestige cuvee of the house Nicolas François.

This cuvee is about the elegance and finesse rather than the power. Made of equal parts of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir it is blended with less than 10% of red wine from old vines in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ.

Chic rose color with copper hue. Reductive style with a cooler 2007 vintage showing through. Apricot jam, candied citrus, sugar powdered red berries. Delicate bitter cool and dry finish. Disg. in Feb 2019 after spending impressive 11 years on lees. The dosage of 6 g/l is enough to reach the perfect balance.

Dessert Course, Warm Berry Cobbler, House Made Vanilla, Lemon Verbena Ice Cream.

Amazing dessert. Pairing the cobbler with the Ruinart Rosé and the Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve as well. Both good/appropriate for the dual aspects of the cobbler.

Dessert has blackberries and raspberries with lemon and crumble on top (tiny bit of cinnamon) and vanilla lemon verbena ice cream. There are flavors here that call for Rosé & Blanc de Blanc Champange.
