Turkey Flat

Estate Grown Barossa Valley Shiraz 2013

One of the oldest sources of Shiraz in the Barossa with vines first planted in 1847 by Johann Fiedler, a Prussian Lutheran. Their premium wine, The Ancestor Shiraz is produced in minimal quantities from this original vineyard ($300). Since 1860 the Schulz family have been custodians of Turkey Flat. Getting back to this wine, just medium weight, not a Barossa blockbuster. Red spicy fruits, with a little pepper - a seamless palate. Recommended. The house style…, they aim for an elegant yet powerful wine. — 12 days ago

@Bob McDonald, to the best of my knowledge, no, they are not — at least in California, the days of having multiple Aussie wine importers is long gone, now it’s a few specialty importers. Not sure about the situation on the East Coast.

Great info. Thanks for sharing. I’m a fan of Barossa small-batch wines.

Yakut Öküzgözü Boğazkere

Enjoyed this one with an Armenian Lahmajun flatbread. Some raisin, blueberry, black cherry and something floral (hibiscus?) on the nose. Lighter body with a light tannic finish. Picking up some raspberry, cherry and green apple in the middle. Paired incredibly well with the lamb flatbread tonight. Really enjoyed this. — 6 months ago

Yakut Öküzgözü Blend 2020

Strong cherry aromas and flavors, very mild acid from the tart cherry and some mild but present tannins. Very food friendly. A blend of 4 grapes (Öküzgözü, Bogazkere, Alicante, Carignan) made in Turkey. — 3 years ago
