92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc. “V” is the premium Cuvée from the winery. Dusty plum and black currant notes with a hint of menthol. A touch of leather on the nose and a gamey note. Barb thought it smelt like a woolly jumper. I like it when people who don’t write tasting notes but have a good sense of smell come up with a new aromatic descriptor. Bought this at the winery in 2012 in Stellenbosch when we had a structured tasting. A great district for Cabernet where we had excellent examples from Ernie Els and Rustenberg amongst others - all recorded here on Delectable. Owned at the time by mining giant, Anglo-American. Possibly still is - I didn’t check. We see very little South African wine in Australia. One of the 1001 Wines. — a year ago

More a show jumper than a thoroughbred, the 2015 Pajè Barbaresco from Roagna is light on its feet and well-balanced, but reaches great heights. High-toned red fruit (strawberry at the top), baking spice, and florals jump from the glass one-after-another and land softly on a a base of minerality. Drinking beautifully. — 18 days ago

Explosive bubbles that quickly dissipate.
Very lifted red fruit and florals that make it hard to take your nose out of the glass. The palate is like an Olympic high jumper with ripe red fruit, cranberries and minerals speeding down the length of your tongue then lift off into a ball of vinous goodness. Young and acidic. My only nit-pick is the finish , could have been longer but that could be the result of the tightly wound structure . — 4 years ago

This pale, yellow wine smells extremely grassy - no surprise for a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. There is also a large swath of grapefruit, cantaloupe and tropical fruits cutting through the nose. The grapefruit comes through explosively on the palate, along with a mineral streak a mile wide. The mouthfeel is quite crisp and the acidity zippy. There is just a tiny hint of sweetness here, and the citrus flavor lasts a long while on the finish. You can pair this with any sort of white meat or seafood, but I think it would be a great choice to go with one’s breakfast eggs, if one were so inclined. — 4 years ago
