The 2020 Pinot Nero is such a pretty and finessed varietal expression that mixes alpine herbs with wild strawberries and crushed rocks. It’s elegant with silky textures that usher in masses of lavender-tinged black cherries and spices, as juicy acidity maintains fantastic balance. The 2020 leaves a coating of fruit concentration along with sweet tannins that add a gentle grip, promising a steady evolution. That said, there is no harm in drinking this today. 2015. By the time we added this delicious Burgundy to the table while we were still enjoying the Diel Extra Brut Sekt and the R. Lopez de Heredia Vina Tondonia Gran Reserva Rosato it created a perfect spectrum of colors and flavors to match the dishes prepared by the Boiler Room chefs. A great way to usher in the New Year! — a year ago
2019 vintage. Elegant and French. Silky. Fruit and earth in balance. Wonderful way to usher in 2023. Enjoyed with New Year’s Eve pressed duck dinner at Pasjoli in Santa Monica, with Nai Nai and Robert. — 2 years ago
The 2019 Fiano Terre di Dora impresses with dried flowers, incense and almond paste complemented by peach and mango notes. Silky contours usher in mineral-tinged white stone fruits, zesty green citrus and exotic spice. While gorgeous already, the 2019 offers good near-potential. $19.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous, September 2021) — 3 years ago
Ripe crushed cherries, blueberry skins, savory herbs, earthy minerals and a hint of animal musk, come together to form an alluring bouquet on the 2015 Lavinea Elton. On the palate, soft, fleshy textures usher in an array or ripe dark fruits, yet perfectly balanced by juicy acids and lifting minerals which saturate the senses, making for a pliant but also zesty expression of Oregon Pinot. The finish is long and spicy, with a tactile hint of youthful tannins. What a pleasurable glass of Pinot. — 5 years ago
Ruby running to garnet, color. Earthy nose, brush, pine. We are way early of course. Sharp, bitter cut on the flowers, wood present, tannins still quite chalky and harsh. But this will be amazing with time. Alcohol and acidity will usher this wine into another dimension. I would give this another 2-3 years. You can drink it now at a score of 92+, but, hold out for 95. @Antonio Galloni will this make the cut for the future Barolo event?

Black cherries mix with a spice box of autumnal aromas, camphor and smoke to create a captivating display as the 2016 Montefalco Rosso Riserva opens up in the glass. Its silky textures usher in a polished display of red fruits laced with sweet inner florals, all framed nicely by saline-minerality. Tart berries, licorice and a hint of wild herbs linger long through the lightly structured but also slightly bitter finale. The 2016 Riserva is a blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Sagrantino. Crafted from fully destemmed grapes, the elegant and polished 2020 Saint-Joseph totally delivers. Violets, black cherry, raspberry and discrete cedar usher in. Ripe tannins structure this medium-bodied and concentrated Saint-Joseph that maintains its elegant profile right through to the refined finale. (Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous, March 2024)
