I often imagine the vine as a family tree, stretching back centuries, in this case, to 1550 or so, when La Louvière acquired its name from the many hungry wolves (louves) that roamed the deep forests of the Graves, well before the construction of the elegant 18th century chateau that adorns the label of this flagship wine. This brief history lesson makes me appreciate even more the imposing qualities of the 2005 La Louvière, a wine with a lot of time on its hands. Firm and taut as a young wolf, with the strong heart to endure and improve for a decade or more, gracefully maturing into a benchmark Pessac-Léognan, stylish and fleshier, more supple and savoury as the willful tannins are further seduced by the dark and persuasive fruit. If you really can't wait, then bite the cork, figuratively, and decant for an hour before enjoying with gently-braised lamb shanks. — 5 years ago

If there's a finer west coast Loire style Franc, I need to know about it. — 12 years ago
Great aperitif light dinner wine on a hot night. Nose shows gorgeously pure orchard fruit, a little wet straw, and a bit of crushed stone. Great balance and brightness on the palate, with very nice acids and spritely minerality zooming the fruit along. It’s Pinot Blanc, so don’t expect great depth or complexity, but it sure is fun to drink. Fantastic value. — 2 years ago
Tastes nice. Not on the wine. Fruit forward for sure but not too much. Compare to idealist. $12 willful salty and rich. Earthy but not dirt earth. — 10 years ago
Delightful Pinotbubbles — 12 years ago
Выпито с Еленой. Красные ягоды с сильным вкусом табака и предложением земельных запахов. Отличный экземпляр орегонского пино — 4 years ago

Wild and willful, Raptor Ridge's 2012 Meredith Mitchell Vineyard Pinot Noir follows in suit of past vintages: she does what she wants. A perfume-y nose of sour cherries, strawberry-rhubarb, sage, eucalyptus, summer pine needles, and fresh mushrooms, giving way to a buxom and juicy wine of bright red cherries, currants, orange rind, and gooseberries. She mellows to red plums and brown pears, finishing with wet river stones, meadow soils, conditioned new leather, and a lasting impression of ripe green apples that will be sure to to tempt you in future openings. Giver her time - she will come around. — 12 years ago
