Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

9.4

Coombville is generally picked later. Some really late like Kobalt. Mark Herold picked this just about right. It is not overly sweet but has some sweetness.

Still loving the 2021’s. Rounding up to 94 here. The 2023’s aren’t out yet. Later next year, but I am hearing it maybe be better than 21. We’ll see…hearing that so far from people that have to sell it.

The is really nice blackberries, black raspberries, plum, dark cherries, creamy raspberries, black tea, black licorice, sandy loamy limestone earth, good presence of dark spice w/o much heat, as well, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, touch of vanilla, dark, turned earth, dry tobacco, used leather, dark flowers that are a combination of fresh & withering flowers, a nicely balanced, well made structured, tensioned, elegant finish that lasts 90 seconds and starts juicy and lands on spice & top soil.

Their Coombsville & Oakville wine’s are very solid. Once Gallo bought Stagecoach, they opted out of continuing to take fruit from them as Gallo wasn’t offer the same fruit they had been getting. They are making some new wines now that will be released the end of 25 or in early 26. These will be made with the kind of quality fruit or better they were making with the Stagecoach.

Amazing nose. Mid to late season very ripe cherries, cranberry bog, white chocolate, and some citrus rind. Gorgeous. Spice and violets as well. Palate is rich and tense at the same time with gorgeous sweet cherry fruit and unreal purity and freshness. Super silky and sweet with great acidity and mineral sweet cherry finish. Now with air there is gorgeous blackberry and black raspberry. Unreal red cherries and spice. Really lifted nose. Palate is much redder than the nose lets on and has really engaging minerality. So pure and well made. Almost a 9.5. — 5 months ago

This is being served well chilled.

The nose shows bright fruits with a core of dark currants, dark spice and really beautiful florals.

The fruits are perfectly ripe & juicy; blackberries, black plum, black raspberries, dark cherries, raspberries on the palate edges, purple fruit blend, dry tobacco & leather, dry barrel shavings, lead pencil, dry crushed rocks, bold, drier M+ tannins, black coffee, anise to black licorice, dark chocolate, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla, dry herbs, limestone marl, bright fresh and a little withering, dark, red, & purple flowers, very nice acidity and a fresh that is well; tensioned, structured, balanced, elegant that last 90 seconds and lands on dry tannins & earth.

A little more beauty & fine elegance over the 2020.

Nose shows nice ripe, dark core fruits with fresh dark floral and spice.

The palate shows; lush mouthfeel with thick, ripe M+ tannins, blackberries, black raspberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, plum, creamy raspberries & purple fruits, fresh & dry tobacco, used raw leather, nice mid level baking spices, crushed, dry limestone, dry top soil, mix of some fresh & dry herbs, excellent level of dark spice-not overdone, anise, caramel, milk & dark chocolate, dark & red flowers framed in liquid violets, excellent round acidity with a velvety, lush, elegant finish that is very well balanced, structured that lasts 90 seconds.

Wild Eyed Red Mountain Syrah 2012

Purchased at release and like most WA Syrahs needs time to achieve its potential. This wine is now soft and fully integrated with black and red cherry graphite tar menthol spice cedar smoked meat all in balance with just enoigh acid to keep it bright. Color is still deep ruby with no rim variation. I've had every vintage ever made of the Wild Eyed and remain loyal. — 10 months ago
