Nose is so supple. Warming (not in an alcoholic sense) and comforting. Dried roses. Spices. As this opens, intense hand crushed rose petals. With some more time intense lilacs. I mean really intense like elite volnay intense. Wtf!?!

Palate is still so fresh. Moderately dense fruit. Bright cherries. So juicy. Terrific spice. Rose petal juice. Wow. Nice elegance. Only 13.5% alcohol. Not one of these ponderous post climate change monsters. As it opens very good deliciousness. A lovely Roundness. Spice. Wow.

Great fresh finish.

This is exactly why you want in an entry level Barolo. Not Uber dense and overly weighty. Stunningly drinkable. Wow.

I’m having it with cassouela. Yes I know I should have had valtellina wine to stay in Lombardy... bite me. All the ballers in Milan drink barolo.

Annual guys WTF Christmas party with spouses. Lots of great wine. I’ll post my highlights with pics I got.

A rich and decadent night cap to a wonderful evening. Raisins, dark chocolate dipped blueberries and blackberries, fig, and cassis coat the glass. Molasses like texture on the palate with licorice, oven baked blackberry pie, baking spices and a touch of heat toward the finish. — 5 years ago

1998 vintage. Cork a little dry near the bottom so called out the Durand for a rescue. Less meniscus than expected. Dusty, earthy nose. Medium body. Heaps of allspice/sandalwood, prunes and baking chocolate hovering about in the medicinal/oily nose and (mostly) in the flavor profile. Ridiculously reminiscent of an aged (‘80’s-‘90’s) Branaire-Ducru St. Julien BDX. So much so that, if blind tasting, that is the guess. This is gliding along. No highs or lows to navigate currently. Not a showstopper by any means but one helluva ringer in a blind tasting. Some bretty influences here and there but nothing warranting a red card/dq. Picked up slightly more body and a noticeable cinnamon/clove note on the finish after being open for an hour. Also...some muddiness along with a sudden frontal-palate richness (at the 1.5 hours open mark) reminiscent of Petit Verdot involvement/influence. WTF?!?! Bring it! 4.21.24. — 5 months ago

Monthly WTF wine group tasting. This month’s theme was chardonnay from any region or vintage. Nice eclectic bunch! All wines tasted blind.

I really enjoyed this. Next to the Chablis it was poured next to, this was much more soft. It also continually evolved in the glass. More reductive/matchstick notes here than the Chablis, as well as a warm profile. It revealed some baking spice notes from the oak, lemon meringue, ripe stone fruits and the profile was almost creamy (in a good way). This would be a nice bottle to bridge people from high end Cali chard to burgundy. — 5 years ago

Monthly WTF group recap. Theme this month was “bring something special”. Normally we taste all of the wines blind, but we decided to do a relaxed night with amazing wines at a great restaurant. Spectacular evening!

Had the ‘92 not been alongside it, this may have stolen the show, but it seems to be much more tightly wound. Mainly strutting notes of red plum, cherry tart and rhubarb on the nose. Slightly St Estephe like on the palate currently with cherry swisher sweets, blackberries drizzled over bayleaf and herbs. Quite tannic. Hold or decant for a few hours if enjoying now. Bought this knowing nothing about the wine on recommendation of my Delectable friend Anthony Lombardi, whom I have actually never met (one of the many things I love about this app). My initial reaction to the color and nose was WTF, not having any experience with these wines, but then I got it. Orange rind, over ripe peach, nectarine, apricot, orangina, capers, lemons, spice, sand, bunch of other stuff, all coming from a cloudy, orangish, smoky liquid that resembled what I understood to be wine, and I can’t say there was a finish because I kept tasting it long after it was done. Oh and it changed a lot over several hours. Felt archaic, organic, creative, weird, and natural. Thanks Anthony. — 4 years ago

Wtf? This is amazing. Almost marsanne like.. super dark yellow gold that actually becomes lighter with air (Wierd but maybe it’s just my perception because the fruit goes from rich to lean with air as well) with aromas of dried almond, quince, apricot and wet hay. It needs time to open up and while it may be a ‘fat’ for my taste, there is a never ending mineral component to keep it fresh in intriguing. A benchmark wine for sure! Monthly WTF wine group night. Our theme was American oak vs French oak. All wines tasted blind. We started off with two bottles of bubbly and finished with two non-themed reds.

Fun to contrast alongside the ‘12 Ridge Cab. A lot more rich fruit here, but also channeling more tannin. Rich blue and black fruits with currant, baking spices at first, but there is a very nice balance of herbal notes, bayleaf and dusty tannin. Very enjoyable and still getting better. This place has one of the most gorgeous tasting rooms I’ve ever seen, so visiting is a must! Thanks @Bill Makens — 5 years ago
