Premiere Mise is sourced from Yvon’s oldest vines from the Cercillon plot in Fleurie, another legendary "V.V." bottling. Only bottled “Beaujolais” because it's above 500m elevation and some dumb rules for the Fleurie AOC.
Poured into a decanter about an hour prior to service and enjoyed over the course of several hours. The 2023 “Premier Mis” pours a hazy, deep ruby with a translucent core; medium viscosity with light staining of the tears. The nose? Well…it’s sensational (with just enough funk to remind you this is Metras): gorgeous, lifted notes of red brambles, red plum, mixed flowers, licorice, a whiff of horse blanket, dried herbs and granitic earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. A stunning Metras; a wine you think about for days after.
