Nose of wet earth, sweet mid season strawberry, spices, minerals, sweet ripe tomato, watermelon and iodine. Very harmonious aromas. A gamey element as well that adds intrigue. Palate is sappy and elegant with such refined mousse and silky flavors of strawberry and watermelon. With air the nose has soppy cherries now and just a deeper fruit expression overall. Really good acids but also it clearly needs air. Man, after some air the fruit has such remarkable clarity and really hits. — 5 days ago

Out of bottle this is built like a brick house. Stacked. Nose is lurid spices, cranberry, sour cherry, hint of va, mid season cherry and a gorgeous earthy and mineral sweetness. But has way more to say. Palate is massive. Huge tannins but super sapid and unreal density. But still remains so fine. But drying on finish for now but this will gain so much with air. I’ll be back. Hasn’t budged much after an hour. Back in the drugs it goes and see tomorrow. It’s evolving and there is. deep feel to it but the tannins are still a bit much. This got killer overnight. So juicy and clean and cascading fruit. Tannins integrated and sweet. 9.5 to 9.6. — 6 days ago

2018 base. 4 grams dosage and disgorged 4/22. Nose is all wet earth and yeast. Lemon peel, toast, citrus (tangelo?) skin as well. Really nice, layered and complex aromas. Lonely, mineral and tree bark aromas as well. Palate is juicy and clean with explosive lemon and grapefruit citrus fruit and terrific purity and freshness. Good sap and very clean. Needs air as I reckon this has more to tell. Nose gets some saline as well with air and the palate becomes juicier. It’s very good but so far not special. Really has good palate presence. — a day ago

What’s a Monday without Delectable eating a tasting note? This is by far the best bottling of this wine I have ever had. Nose of sour cherry, confectionary cherry cotton candy, spice, flowers and mineral. So subtle yet so detailed. Just stunning. Was tight this last summer but this wine has blossomed. Floral as well: This is so so pretty. Palate is gorgeous. Unreal fruit that is subtle as it is elegant. Crunchy and velvety. Sapid and pure. Unreal inner mouth aroma and a controlled density. This is brilliant but not for everybody as it’s not in your face and traffics in subtlety. With an hour of air the fruit is crazy. So dense yet light. Ripe and so elegant. Took 40 minutes then it drank well. Rich, chewy, luscious and generous fruit. Hefty for a 17 but that’s Caredeaux. Always a bruiser. Gorgeous on day 2 with unreal density and sweetness. — 2 days ago

Nose is yeasty, buttery and smells generous. Really inviting. Saline and iodine scents abound. Green apple skins and also a hard mineral background. Good grip and concentration and just the right amount of sugar that gives it a generous mouthfeel but doesn’t lose its grip. Pretty nice flavors of lemon curd, toast, butter and green apple. Good freshness and acidity along with fine mousse. Really fine for this level. Nice sap and complexity on the finish and some lime zest and green apple flesh and skins. Now with air the inner mouth sweet spices are so good. More elegant with air and a super salty finish. 9.3 now. — 5 days ago

I love this vineyard and Girard’s interpretation of it. Generous and enveloping nose with gorgeous mid season cherry, spice, seaweed paper, tweed jacket and macerated mid to late season cherries. Really provocative and deep aromas. Palate is classic young Fichots. A wall of tannin and gorgeous dark fruits that echoe but are currently 90% covered by tannins. So dense and chewy with just awesome inner mouth aromas and dark black and blue fruits and. sinewy, foresty vibe that is so intriguing. This wine needs air but is shaping up to be a classic Fichots. Nose opening up with dark cranberry, spice, forest floor and more. The Fichots aromatic complexity is really here in spades. I love this wine. Loosening up and getting so juicy. So pure. Really nice inner mouth aromas and terrific energy and freshness. — a day ago
