International Whisk(e)y Day 2019

Calling all whisk(e)y lovers! Every year on March 27, those who enjoy this brown liquor sip on a glass or share a bottle with a group. This day was first celebrated in 2008 in honor of Michael Jackson, journalist and well-known whisk(e)y writer. In addition to drinking whisk(e)y, those who celebrate today are encouraged to donate to their charity of choice. Many whisk(e)y lovers who donate choose to donate to Parkinson's Disease charities, in honor of Michael. There are many ways to celebrate whisk(e)y on this fine day. From having a drink at your local bar to popping open a bottle you've been eyeing for a while, make sure you enjoy this day with at least one little sip. Tonight’s nightcap 🥃

During our stay at the hospital for the birth of our son some dear friends of ours brought my wife & I a care package. In it were all manner of goodies and treats, as well as a bottle of champagne and this scotch. They know us all too well 🤫🤷🏻‍♂️

Caramel, creme brûlée, charred orange peels, and Christmas spice cake on the nose. Mild notes of moss on the palate with a pronounced but welcome warmth on the way down. Smooth and perfectly suitable for ending the day with. — 6 years ago

Grainy, cereal nose with dried trail mix notes. Granola. Palate is bold, in classic fashion Old Forester fashion. Spicy notes lead to a long, warm finish. Good effort. For those who like a bold,, spicy rye, this one hits the right note. — 6 years ago

Not the World Whiskies Award-winning cask HH0351, but from the same batch (HH0466). 17 year old, distilled in 2000, aged in American Oak ex-bourbon cask. It's really quite elegant, with a sort of freshness in the nose and a beautiful malty element, and an endless finish. I don't know much about whisky (I do try), but I can tell this is special. — 6 years ago

This was an amazing treat! The finish lingers and lingers, and there is no way to describe how mellow and delicate this scotch is. It’s Mcallan 30, what more needs to be said?

Glenrothes used to have a relatively unique labeling convention. They would mark the distillation date (vintage date). They did away with all that and adopted a more traditional age statement for their bottles. This was a crazy dark color after seeing 18 years in ex-sherry casks. Delicious honey, nuts, and dried fruits. Smooth. A pleasant “oiliness” though not to the extreme that the Craigellachie has. Long finish. Rich and delicious. Definitely worth seeking out. — 6 years ago
