Heitz Cellar
Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Tar and asphalt on the nose, cassis as well as fresh dark fruit. Great volume and acid on the palate, quite fresh.

Beautiful and historic. Old ownership. Wears the 14.5% alc. well. Dark cherry, cassis, eucalyptus, jalapeño, and perfectly integrated oak. Blind tasted next to ‘14 Chase-Spleen and was immediately recognized for its fruit and character. Plenty of life ahead but drinking very well with a long decant now.

Just okay. Really. Nothing to write home about. Lacking mid-palate and slightly too acidic seeming. #napavalley #cabernet

Always a great go to CS from Napa. Hoping it stays consistent in the years to come.

A classic. Graphite. Cassis. Gravel. Hint of eucalyptus. Not a blockbuster but pretty classic profile. Savory flavors and on the leaner side but long and with nice length.

Perhaps an off bottle. Bright cherry with an intense chalky finish. Not like Rutherford dust... but like Sister Margaret’s eraser board chalk dust.

What a wine. Icy menthol nose. Dense, ripe, and complex. Tobacco and tar finish.

Not sure I’ve actually had Heitz before, which I realize is a bit odd especially considering I worked in Napa. But it felt like a nice choice at the classic Smith and Wollensky for my mother in law’s bday. Definitely needs an hour plus of air - but once it does, nice deep red fruit with surprisingly good acid to keep it in balance. Not quite at the Mayacamas level - but obviously different price point.

First time tasting this textbook Napa Cab. Good ruby color. The nose is full of vanilla and berries. The pallet is full bodied with more red fruit, substantial acidity and strong tannings. A wine I’d like to have again and again and possibly one more time.
