Stags' Leap Winery
Napa Valley Merlot
Blend of 98% Merlot & 2% Petite Sirah, aged for 19 months in French oak (35% new), deep Ruby with aromas of ripe black fruits, spice and sweet notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry, black cherry and currants with baking spice, vanilla oak and cacao notes. Fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit, floral, cacao and vanilla oak. Tasting well now, good for another 5+ years in cellar.

Aug 31st, 2022This wine is okay. I expected more. Has a funky finish. Other then that, it’s smooth, not too tannic.

Nov 5th, 2021The ‘18 is fresh and bright with subtle tannins. Doesn’t need much air at all. Very good, especially with a killer deal at $25. I am going to try to find a case.

Nov 26th, 2023Brooding ruby color with a slight brick rim. The aromas vary as the wine opens up. Starts with blackberry, blueberry and plum fruit with hints of red and purple flowers then evolves with touches of leather and a slight bit of pyrazine. The pallet leads with the same fruits (not overbearing) with additional notes of chocolate and roasted nuts. Medium bodied with nice dusty tannins. Nicely made and well balanced. I honestly thought it was a Zinfandel. Thank you for sharing this one, John P.

Oct 10th, 2022Stag's Leap is a long time favorite of mine. I've been drinking it for probably 15 years. It's smooth and well balanced. Chocolates, hazelnut, and berries flavor this medium bodied wine.

Aug 26th, 2022Pop-and-pour through an aerator. Nose: burned orange. Fresh turned soil. Cranberry. Rose (very subdued). A little more anonymous than I had hoped, but well made - “elegant.” Taste: red fruits (ripe pomegranate), dry tobacco, aromatic wood. Coconut. Bay leaf. Chalk and clay. 90-91. EDIT: A LOT of raspberry comes out with air. Also, a bit of pineapple (?). Point being: tart fruit.
