Tenute Silvio Nardi
Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese
Monthly wine group met up and had an Italian wine night at one of the local Italian BYOB spots. Really fantastic Italian wines were brought, as well as some random bottles that were outside the theme (but worthy of opening regardless of theme).
This is one of the better brunellos I’ve had in a while. It was double decanted about 6-7hrs before dinner and it needed every bit of that. Darker than expected, in a good way. Black-cherry, smoked earth, spiced dates.

This wine leans towards the dark side, old world all the way. Dried dark fruits, tar, savory herbs, toasted fennel seed, decayed/dried purple flowers. Taste is all around big, long finish with a little warmth from the alcohol. Certainly a wine like this you want to eat with some food, very high acid, think braised dishes like veal shanks, ratatouille & polenta, or your nonnas braciole ey.

1 person found it helpfulAug 18th, 2016Found at charming "Stowe Wine and Cheese" shop in Vermont, this great Brunello is from the stellar 2010 vintage. Silvio Nardi, in the NW part of Montalcino, makes wine with grapes from different parts of the region. Bright red color with hint of brick orange; nose is full of red fruit, delicious herbs and mint; taste is powerful yet delicate, with silky tannins, high acids, orange peel, and a moderate-length finish with some soothing chestburn at the very end (14.5%). Won't touch my other bottles for many years.

1 person found it helpfulFeb 20th, 2015This 100% Sangiovese wine, which was aged in oak for 2 years (12 months French oak and 12 months Slavonian oak), I noticed a clear deep Ruby red color with aromas of ripe dark fruits, wet stone and sweet spice. The palate revealed a full-bodied wine with medium acidity, fine yet smooth tannins and a slight warmth of alcohol present. The ripe fruit flavors of cherry and strawberry are complex yet not overdone. Some cacao and tobacco appear on the long finish. Tasting Sample.
