Hither & Yon

Mclaren Vale Touriga Nacional 2019

Oh my, last night we had a feast!! You may have caught a glimpse on my stories 😉

Firstly a big thank you to @hither_yon for kindly sending us a sample of their 2019 McLaren Vale Touriga to taste. When I read the food match, I just had to give it a go:

“Portuguese style chicken, butterflied, barbecued, coated with peri peri sauce, served with crusty bread and side salad, lime wedges and chips”.

I found a Portuguese style chicken recipe on the @taste_team website and made a few tweaks for it to fit exactly what we were after.

And it was a success! The meal and the beautiful wine match.

If you haven’t had wine made from the Touriga Nacional grape variety before, it’s Portugal’s famous red variety that is primarily used in making Port wine. However it makes brilliant dry red wines too 🍷

This 💯% Touriga is drinking well now and you can cellar it up until 2025. Plus it’s also vegan friendly.

We found it a purpley-raspberry colour in the glass with notes of black fruits on the nose. It has a rather elegant, nearly floral perfume to it. In the mouth those black fruits flow through and it has lovely length to the finish. It complimented the chicken 🍗 and spice 🌶 so well 👌

If you’re keen to try this beauty or any of the @hither_yon range, make sure to use the code TCWINE for 20% 3
bottles or more 🙌

This wine was sent to me as a sample, all opinions are my own.

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

Jean Marie Fourrier

Grand Cru Echezeaux Vieille Vigne Pinot Noir 2013

Jeff J
9.3

#4 of my tasting pack, 2013 Jean Marie Fourrier Echezeaux. Dark ruby in color. Raspberry, leather, wet stony mineralogy and sea breeze on the nose. On the palate its firm tannin hidden behind striking acidity, evident ripe pepper. Considerably more depth than those two volnays I tasted earlier. A remarkable echezeaux especially considering this is the negociant wine of Fourrier. #winetastingnotes #burgundy #fourrier #winetasting — 9 years ago

Le Casematte

Faro Nerello Mascalese Blend 2014

2014 La Casematte Faro (88 pts) #winereview - Extremely aromatic nose. Raspberries and red cherries on the nose. There are definite herbal notes of rosemary and thyme that took time to come out in the glass, but are now front and center. Subtle hints of ink as well. Medium- body, the palate starts with bright red fruit and fades into almost a sweet cherry tomato flavor with the herbal notes on the finish. The inky note is still present and I am wondering if it is from the Nero d'avola in the blend although minor. This is not as elegant as some Faros that I have tasted, but given how tiny the appellation is my reference points are few and far between. #wineterroir #wine #winelover #winegeek #winetasting — 9 years ago

Suvla 'Sur' 2011, Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey
Blend of Merlot, Cab Franc, Cab Sauv, Petit Verdot. Very one dimensional. Extraction, fruit and oak. Jammy, black cherry, stewed plum mixed with vanilla spice. A good wine for Napa Valley palate.

Anselmo Mendes

Expressions Monçao & Melgaço Alvarinho 2013

2013 Anselmo Mendes - Expressoes Vinho Verde (90 pts) #winereview - Pale lemon color. Pronounced nose and running the gamut in terms of aromas from floral to tropical. Honeysuckle, pear, quince, lime, cantaloupe and watermelon rind. A touch of smoke and steeliness as well. The palate is dry, high acidity, medium body, and medium alcohol. Cantaloupe, quince, and lime on the palate, but the steeliness is more of a wet stone flavor now. Great mouthfeel, the wine is light but flavorful. The finish is long and really surprising, it ends with floral notes of honeysuckle and acacia. This just adds to yet another Vinho Verde to the list that has really captivated me recently. You could easily kill bottles of this wine at a dinner party. Crowd pleaser, but provocative enough to keep people asking for more. Extremely well made. #portugal #vinhoverde #alvarinho #anselmomendes #wineterroir #wine #winegeek #winelover #winetasting — 9 years ago

Fattorie Romeo Del Castello

Vigo Rosa Etna Rosé Blend 2015

2015 Fattorie Romeo del Castello - Etna Rosato (91 pts) #winereview - Easily the best Rosato, I have tasted in all of Sicily. The color very deep for a Rosato, almost as dark as some producers Etna Rossos. Aromas of ripe strawberries, red currants, crushed rocks and a note of salinity that carries through on the palate. Medium weight on the palate with striking acidity. Finish is long with a lingering white pepper spice. I would love to see how this ages, but its delicious now. #wine #winelover #wineterroir #winetasting — 9 years ago

Marco De Bartoli

Pietranera Sicilia Zibibbo 2015

2015 Pietranera Pantelleria Bianco (87 pts) #winereview - This wine jumps out of the glass with floral aromas of acacia and rose. Quickly followed by tropical fruit lychee and watermelon rind. Also the telltale musky aromas of Zibibbo (aka Muscat of Alexandria). The palate is bone dry with medium acidity. The palate is not as expressive as the nose, but there is a strong minerality to the wine that you don't get out of a lot of Muscats (Yay Volcanic soil!). The finish is moderate length. This is a pleasure to drink but really needs to be at the perfect temp as too cold and it's less expressive and too warm it comes across a bit flabby. #wineterroir #wine #terroir #winereview #winelover #winegeek #winetasting — 9 years ago
