Notes of leather, menthol, and wood right out of the bottle. After breathing a bit, still has that classic dusty forest floor scent of riserva sangiovese overlaying dark cherry and cocoa aromas. Subtle hints of vanilla, baking spices, and dill, all fascinating considering Brunello is usually made with Slavonian oak. Complex with a long spicy finish.

Fantastic Montalcino - licorice, black currant on the nose and black raspberries, cedar and a hint of tobacco on the palate with a silky finish. This is so lovely right now and the price point ($65) makes it a steal. Not sure how the pros rated this so low.

Deep garnet hue. Heavy tearing. Orange rim variation. Dried prune, plum, and fig, sage, bay leaf, mushroom, earth, and oak on the nose. Mild, soft tannins on the palate. Balance of fruit and spice and oak on the palate. Vintage 2007. ABV 14%.

Dec 31, 2019. Happy NewYear! Gift from Janis and David. Ohlala. We should all have friends like this. Deep red color. Black fruit. Opens up nicely, definitely decant. Had w/ David, Caitlin, Jack D, KK. Great way to end 2019.
