Tasted blind, although we are now told that all of the reds tonight are 61's so our tasting becomes a single blind horizontal exercise. This wine is brownish tawny, translucent and very old-looking. Perfumed nose with notes of cola, rhubarb, cherry and earth. Has a light structure with faded fruit at first. We're told this bottle was a leaker with the lowest fill of all of tonight's bottles. Guesses are all over the map including Italian and very old red burg (me). We've had spectacular 61 Palmers before and in the first part of the evening, this bottle was missing it. BUT, late in the evening (and 9 hours after opening) this caught its sea legs and grew in volume, complexity and delivery. My rating was crossed out three times as I upgraded this while we all marvelled at the improvement... and in the end, this 61 Palmer showed it's pedigree and overall power. Glad we waited it out! Raspberry leaves and a beautiful vegetal structure to this wine. More full bodied than I expected and delighted with it. Happy belated 5th anniversary to my darling husband ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ — 9 months ago
Lemon in colour. Some flint in evidence and smoky barrel ferment characters - sulphides. Sweeter on the palate than you would expect from the nose. Rich lemon characters. Overall lean in style. Tasted 41 weeks later on 19th January 2022 with consistent notes. Still in the lean citric acid style. Had another bottle 69 weeks later on 5th August 2022. It had filled out somewhat and not as lean. Excellent winemaking on show - perhaps pick a bit later for more ripeness? Mac seems to be aiming for a more elegant style. — 3 years ago
Smooth buttery pale yellow — a year ago
Burnt orange in colour with a pale copper hue. Aromas of sliced watermelon and red florals. Sweet but not overly so on the front palate showing strawberry and a herbal touch. Barb thought a peachy note on light weight palate finishing with a nice bitterness. An excellent Provençal Rose for immediate drinking. Had another bottle on 5th January 2022, 17 weeks later with consistent notes. On the Gold Coast at Northcliff. Had the last bottle on 16th November 2023 with consistent notes. Watermelon notes still there. Refreshing. — 3 years ago

Let it breathe. Smooth. Good with steak. Ok with chocolate. Nice aroma after sitting in the glass. — 3 months ago
