Barbaresco Cottà 2015

With enough age and air to hit on all cylinders. A bit of VA on day 2 and it elevates it even more. — a day ago

@Jay Kline haven’t tried many MGA barbarescos, but this sure was impressive. It certainly showed me there is a world beyond the consistently good Produttori.

@Jae Cho There sure is! Other MGA’s in Nieve to keep an eye out for are Currá (which is right next to Cottá) and Sottimano makes a great example; Albesani; Gallina; Bricco di Nieve; and then arguably the most famous of all, Serraboella. Obviously, experience with Produttori’s Riservas is like a “greatest hits” of MGA’s within Barbaresco del Barbaresco but it’s also worth seeking out examples from Pajè; Roccalini; and of course the incomparable Roncagliette. Aside from Vallegrande and Rombone, I have less experience in Trieso and really no experience in Barbaresco di Alba.

Cuslanus Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend

I was pleasantly surprised that we hadn’t held this 2015 vintage too long; it was ready to drink. Velvety smooth, perfect with any red sauce Italian dish. — a year ago

La Rocca Piemonte Cortese 2021

Opened the precious day and kept in the wine fridge overnight. The 2021 “La Rocca” pours a straw color with medium- viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with cheese and melons: cantaloupe, musk melon, Taleggio and Pecorino Romano with some lemon and raw almonds. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium and there’s palpable texture. A fun wine and more interesting than most Gavi’s I’ve had recently. This is 100% Cortese sourced from their vineyards in Barbaresco and San Rocco Seno d’Alba; fermented and aged in French oak barriques. Drink now. — 4 months ago
