Viña San Román Toro Tempranillo 2015

Poured into a decanter about an hour prior to service; no formal notes due to the setting. It has been a few years since I last enjoyed the 2015 and I am happy to report that it is now very much open for business. The fruit is on full display and the oak is much better integrated. The structure is still quite firm but I found everything to be in better balance than it was upon release. This is squarely and its drinking window and should remain that way through the remainder of this decade and likely, well beyond. Drink now through 2030+ — a month ago

Pintia Muestra Toro Tempranillo 2019

Vega Sicilia started purchasing Toro vineyards in 1997 but didn’t release Pintia until ‘01. 100% Tinta de Toro, thick-skinned clone of Tempranillo, beautiful color, complex aromas of fruit & floral spice. Aged, 18 months, French & American oak, 15% stainless due to very dry year. On the palate pronounced fresh dark berry fruit flavors, smoky oak notes, well balanced with acidity. Complex big tannins, full body, long finish ending with elegant fruit & touch of earthy tones. Nice! Needs time! — 2 months ago

Unico Ribera del Duero Tempranillo Blend 2010

Layered exotic and supple. This is definitely in the zone. There is a lot going on. Rich dark fruit. Ripe currants, smoke and earthy. Decanted. Give it 20-30 minutes to open. — 6 days ago

Capricho Val de Paxarinas Bierzo Godello

Always find myself enjoying Godello when I have it - need to seek it out more. This one is on the more giving side, with lots of lemony fruitiness. Incredible crunchy acid texture. Definitely mouth puckering (in a good way) and with a lingering finish that has that jolly rancher quality. — 2 months ago

On my last trip to Barcelona I remember having the same thoughts about Godello
