Night two at Bern’s. From a bottle with a typewritten label that replaced the original, and supposedly typed by Michael Broadbent according to the Somm. Although the color looks great, the bottle has 3 inches of ullage. Dark color, opaque, brownish tawny. Started off like the other older bottles we’ve had so far. Quiet at first with dusty fruit. With air it opens up with notes of dark plums, sweet currant, spice, cigar and wood desk. Nice structure and acidity. Great mouth feel. Hung on for several hours. Great showing, although the low fill only allowed us limited quantity to consume. — 2 years ago
Powerful and rich, carmelized nuts, old fashioned fruit, marsdchino cherry and orange zest, just a hint of maple syrup on a dryish satisfying finish 🎉 — 2 years ago

Strawberry notes. Lovely fizz, too! — 3 years ago
Another bottle I forgot to get a picture of in situ. Made from Tinta Negra in canteiro. A caramel glaze about to burned brown color, veering into golden brown at the rim. Utterly mouthwatering (and I should say nose quivering) aromas of caramel, brown sugar, sugarcane, molasses, coffee, and dark chocolate, plus a hint of earth and smoke. It is sweet, oh yes, it is, but the acid is bracing. The palate confirms the nose with the addition of caramelized grapefruit, figs, dates and cocoa. Geez Louise, it’s good. Almost cola on the finish. — 10 months ago
1978 vintage. The late Michael Broadbent assessed Giscours 1978 many times as a young wine (up to 10 years old) and called it "an odd-man out, almost Latour-like in massiveness, impressive, but not exactly loaded with charm or finesse, a block-buster". At the age of 45, this Giscours is still standing with an impressively deep colour for its age, and indeed amazing power, more reminiscent of Pauillac than Margaux. An intense, slightly monolithic giant with impressive length. Maybe not the most subtle, but surviving and outperforming most of its peers in this vintage. — 2 years ago
