Château Phélan Ségur

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2022

2022 vintage. From a 375ml bottle. The St. Estèphe exception that proves the rule. Super-delicate cocoa powder with sumptuous richness throughout. Light-medium body. Cos is an outlier on the right. This is on the left. Nearly everything else is in between, hammer and nail 3D BDX...dry, dirty and distinctive. Excellent quality BDX to woo initiates with. 6.26.26. — 2 days ago

L'Alliance des Générations Touraine Cabernet Franc Malbec

Vintage 2015 | 60 % Cabernet Franc 40 % Cot from vignes that are 30 to 50 years old. 18 months barrel aging, 8 months in bottle. 35 hl/ha. I decanted the wine 2 hours in advance. Medium transparency, cardinal red rim. Red currant and blackberries, full bodied with character, fine acidity. Drinks supple with a bitter touch. This is really good. Certainly for its modest origin. But you can’t say that - it seems - these days because dedicated winegrowers can be found everywhere. | Paired with ostrich stew. — 4 years ago

Rule of Three Syrah Blend 2015

Arizona GSM, 40/20/40 blend, 14% alc/vol. Purple-red, moderate pigment extraction. Butter floral and red fruit aromas. Cherry, berry, cola and black currant flavors, slight seed bitterness and skin astringency on finish. A solid interpretation, not overly ripe vs other similar wines from the same origin. — 7 years ago

Il Duca Imperiale Cardinal Sweet Red Blend

For a sweet wine this is absolutely delicious! It’s like taking a big bite out of a dark cherry, plum and pomegranate pie drenched in thick strawberry sauce. Almost sickening sweet! Another gift from a friend. 🥧🍒🍷⛄️ — 8 years ago

Cardinal Cusanus Stiftswein/St. Nikolaus-Hospital

Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese Riesling 2021

Star bright green gold. Yellow apple and honey lead the inviting nose. Bright, tingly acidity -- particularly high for a Mosel -- leads the medium light palate which echoes the nose and adds white peach and honeysuckle. Finish is long and luxe, but it's that phosphorus acidity that really rules. All perceived sweetness is well balanced making this an excellent choice for all fare save for the most fishy white fish (pork tenderloin is a natural, of course). Drink now through 2036. — 3 years ago

@Benjamin Keator had his hosting at the CC tonight and it was absolutely incredible. What a night of gorgeous wines! All wines are guessed blind.

My guess here was ‘04-06 French champagne. I couldn’t guess a house, but I was able to rule out what it wasn’t (PH, Dom, Krug). This wasn’t reductive enough to be west coast. Balanced sweetness and yeastiness well.

Joseph Phelps Vineyards

Insignia Estate Grown Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1998

Somm David T
9.4

1998 not the best Napa Cabernet vintage. However, good producers still find their way through difficult vintages. Joseph Phelps is the rule rather than the exception.

This was poured out of magnum and drinking beautifully by their Hospitality Manger.

Nicely ripe, lush juicy fruits of blackberries, blackberries, both plums, some purple & blue fruits. Dash of spice & lead pencil, anise-black licorice, soft baking spices, caramel notes, some dark chocolate, fresh dark flowers, round acidity and a well balanced, softened structure & tension, elegant, nicely evolved finish that lasted a full minute.
