Château La Rose St. Germain

Domaine des Lambrays

Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2017

I don’t get to try this ultra premium segment of Burgundy much so it is a treat to have this. This displays ripe aromas of berries, rose petal, leafs and wine gum pastille. It is medium bodied. On the palate you get more berries, citrus fruits, vanilla and cinnamon. The finish is fresh and dry with district fine tannins. — 8 months ago

Clos de la Maréchale Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2007

This has really developed since my last btl showing sweet red fruits, lots of spice, earth, mineral & rose petal. Another great 07 that hit the spot. — 2 years ago

Château Léoville Poyferré

Saint Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 1982 Léoville Poyferré is a vintage that I have not seen for a while. This bottle is splendid. It is Ferrous on the nose and offers wilted rose petals, asphalt and pencil shavings, now firmly into its secondary aromatic phase yet maintaining impressive delineation and freshness. Maybe a little rustic compared to recent vintages, yet charming. The palate is very well balanced, and there is a touch of Brettanomyces that would be understandable given the warmth of the growing season. Cedar and graphite flourish toward the finish. This is at a peak now, and as I averred before, I would drink these sooner unless you have larger formats on your hands. Tasted at Burns & German's dinner to celebrate The Complete Bordeaux Vintage Guide book at Medlar. (Neal Martin, Vinous, December 2023)

Château Cheval Blanc

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Rich and warm dark chocolate and raisin nose foreshadows coming depth. Browning grasses, hazelnuts and baked pecans, cinnamon-blueberry tort, black cherry and black currant, wet rose petals, violet-cocoa, and jasmine branch. Tight and young entry still satisfies with spruce buds, pronounced tea leaf, sharp oak tones, cinnamon, red cherry, underripe red currant, pointy graphite; myrrh. Don’t drink ‘em if you got ‘em.

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1986

Plummy, blackberry, dried currants, mulberry, lavender, cedar, tobacco and smoke.
Smoky graphite and mineral opening with fully integrated tannins and overall cohesion. Lovely floral and berry mix with mulberry, cassis and currant, lavender, rose, and violet. Strong showing on a 38 year old wine.

Château Pavie Macquin

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2013

not a good vintage 2013, but this is well made. Great nose of stony minerality, fresh black fruits, some woodsmoke, anise, rose petal and licorice. Very pure and fresh juice. Almost no tannins, great acidity. Blackberry, blackcurrant and some cherries/cassis. This wine is beautiful in precision and drinking rapidly. — 3 years ago

Château La Rose Perrière

Lussac-St. Émilion Merlot Blend 2018

Awesome. Tastes like a mix of Napa and Bordeaux. Dark fruit, a bit of olives, earth, smooth, with that unmistakable “something” that separates great wines from very good wines (someday I will learn what flavor that is, I love it). On sale for $17, so I may buy a case. EDIT: I DID BUY A CASE. KILLER DEAL. EDIT 2: some coconut on the finish (but not in a weird way, think of it as barrel vanilla with more going on — 3 years ago
