Golrious balance. Cork was compressed and showing age, though I stored this in my cold cellar. Nose of yellow fruits and flowers. All of a piece, though feeling a bit spendy.
Happy Mother's day to my wife, paired w almond croissants and truffled eggs.

Domaine Leflaive

Les Pucelles Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay

Got offered a glass, way to cold but of course I always going to accept a glass of pucelles of leflaive. The wood is not yet integrated, full bodied, great salinity. Wait 3 to 5 years, more like a batard than s pucelles. — 7 years ago

Uigeadail The Ultimate Islay Single Malt Scotch Whiskey 54.2% abv.

We love Islay malts in winter— Seattle reached 17° F today, so we reached for the Oog. Gorgeous bottling if a touch sweet for my palate. Threads the needle of smoky peat/malt styles very well. Best with a few drops of water to open up. — 5 years ago

Kansansui (Cold Mountain Water) Junmai Dai-Ginjo Sake

Just, just... just wonderful.

Initially, I get quince and a slight licorice that isn’t overpowering. Peach, of course.

The intangible here is just the well rounded character of the whole thing. It’s hard to nail down, but it’s got this savory, sweet, umami, bitter, acid quality to it that just brings a sip to the very edge of paradise as a flavor, a taste, an experience.

I’m glad I went for the gold here. I love drinking the canned sake and the 300 mL bottles when I’m going solo, so I upped the ante a bit and went for the mid-tier higher selection and it paid off.

Château Coutet

La Chartreuse de Coutet Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2011

Quite consistent with my notes from ~6 months ago:

Nose has over-ripe apricot, almond oil, marzipan, meringue cookie and cold butter.
Palate has warmed apricot pie with extra flakey, buttery crust, sweet sand, white flower honey and mango.

Admittedly I love Sauternes and have many bottles, yet it's a rarity on opening and posting to the Community. We paired this bottle with a hard, smoked goat cheese from a local, Hudson valley producer, a solid match of sweet and salty.

Roederer Estate

L'Ermitage Brut Anderson Valley Chardonnay Pinot Noir 2005

Nose has beautiful saline mousse of lemon curd, slightly oxidized tart green apple peel, freshly baked sourdough bread and cold limestone slab.

Palate has day old bread, dried-shaved ginger, dried lemon pith, squeeze of lemon juice, touch of sweet caramel notes with great acidity, and forever finish. Opulent!

Wow, just wow, enthralled by the aromas coming out of the Gabriel Glas! The palate is just dancing like a Ginger Rogers, matching Fred Astaire doing everything ‘backwards and in high heels’. Hands down the finest version of this California sparkling wine ever passing my lips.

As this warms in the glass it's just even more amazing, moving from 9.4 to 9.5!
