4 weary workers drank well tonight.
This was a striking experience. Every disparate element of the wine seems to charge along on parallel planes so that each mouthful is a choose-your-own-adventure. It flies through a range of crunchy red, to floral purple, to sultry black fruit on lithe, peppery tannins. Somehow the texture is creamy -- like an au poivre. All sorts of garrigue and charcuterie, fresh and saline, mingle with newly ripe berries, and as the thing takes a preposterously long time to finish you realize how perfectly acid has been holding everything together.
I may not yet have had the privilege of trying other legend status wines with which one could draw comparisons but this was by far the most complex bottle of (still young!) juice I’ve ever tasted. — 6 years ago

The Aluve 2014 Cabernet is a blend of 92% Cabernet, 6% Merlot & 2% Petit Verdot. On the nose, blackberries, milk chocolate, plum, black plum, blueberries, mocha powder, cinnamon, vanilla, loamy soils and violets dominate in a fresh floral bouquet. The mouthfeel is M+ body with M tannins that are nice and soft in a young Cabernet. There's lots of chocolate and mocha. Fruits are; blackberries, blueberries, dark cherries with strawberries coming on late. Leather, warm spices, underbrush, crushed dry rocks, Rutherford dust, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, dry, dark florals, lighter round acidity and a fresh, even finish of; fruit, spice & earth with dark florals and red roses. Photos of the Aluve vineyard, JJ & Kelly and one of the planes they flew in the Air Force. Producer history & notes...JJ and Kelly Menozzi recently established Aluve Winery. They met in the Airforce. Both hold the rank of Colonel after serving 23 years in the Airforce. They were stationed in Idaho and shared the love of wine after traveling and seeing the world's wine regions. With Walla Walla only a couple hours drive, they traveled there often. Knowing they were going to term out in the Air Force, they set their eyes on starting a winery in the area they loved. In 2010, several years before they retired from the Air Force, they bought 10 acres of land above Mill Creek and planted 6,000 vines on 5 of those acres. JJ started attending the viticulture college in Walla Walla. Kelly gained experience working the crush at Walla Walla Vintners for the 2014 harvest & JJ worked the 2015 harvest at Dunham Cellars. The Dunhams were the first people they met when we came to Walla Walla back in 2000 and they’ve been very supportive of JJ & Kelly's winery dream. All of the Walla Walla producers share knowledge freely. There is no competition. I can't say I've witnessed anything like it in any other region. The Menozzis are down to earth and they’re off to a flying start. Pun intended. I always see one new producer beginning to make a name for themselves in every region that I visit and JJ and Kelly did not disappoint. Certainly, a winery to watch going forward. I think we can thank them both for their service in the Air Force & in the vineyard. — 9 years ago

Good balance and body. We had it with leftover spaghetti and meatballs. Gonna finish it up while watching Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Happy Thanksgiving! — 12 years ago
Yeah...this is really delicious.
If you like Paper Planes style, this is a similar style but, fuller, richer with more pronounced saline & minerality.
The nose reveals, floral, ripe, slightly candied fruits of; steamed strawberries, summer, lean jolly rancher watermelon, cherries, tangerine, blood orange, black cherries, black raspberries, slightly, baked rhubarb, steamed, white spice, cream soda, vanillin, hints of ginger with pink rose pedals with in a field of spring flowers.
The palate has nice richness, ripeness with excellent viscosity. The fruits are, candied, gummy, ripe and freshness. Steamed strawberries, summer, lean jolly rancher watermelon, cherries, tangerine, pomegranate, blood orange, black cherries, black raspberries, slightly, baked rhubarb, orange rind, pink grapefruit with pith, white spice with just the right amount of heat, lava volcanics, excellent, choppy chalkiness, cream soda, vanillin, hints of ginger with pink rose pedals with in a field of spring flowers. The acidity is like shooting fresh mountain river rapids. The really long finish is; well knitted, harmony fruit & earth with polish, elegance that is persist for several minutes.
Appreciate the 11.8 ABV.
@Dawn E. highly recommend their 18 for you. 👍

Double decanted. And then double decanted AGAIN and allowed to sit for an hour while drinking down the paper planes Rose. This is a black cherry monster. This wine poured a nice dirty maroon into the glass. The nose was black cherry, a bit of spice and pepper. The entry of this wine is full bodied youthful and chalky black cherry, graphite, . Lots of fruit in the middle as well, but some herbal characteristics as well. Finishes with some black cherry. This wine is a MONSTER. And given that this wine will last for 3 decades, to be drinking this powerfully so young in the game is a testament. Amazing. — 8 years ago

Not too dry. Easy to drink. Pairs well with salads and seafood — 11 years ago
Opens on the nose with Mother Earth and a taste of licorice. Then ends with a wisp of blackberry. After 30 minutes it planes out to a very smooth and enjoyable offering with a nice long finish. — 13 years ago
absolutely delicious rosè recommended by the waiter. it’s bright, light with some fizz with some acidity. there were some bubbly strawberry flavors. i had it with a baked chicken. — 4 years ago
I think I’m more surprised I didn’t give this a 9.4 as opposed to me giving this a 9.3! Absolutely shocked at this. This is one of the best rosés I’ve had to date. Not just “best I’ve had to date from TX”, no, this is one of the best rosés I’ve had period.
This reminds me of Paper Planes Rosé (which is a top 3 for me), but instead of the strawberry notes, this is more nectarine and peach. The acidity is almost identical. For me, rosés with higher acidity are my favorite and this knocks it out of the park. Very nectarine focused on the nose with some white peach and herb toward the back. The palate almost goes to a cantaloupe note (more round) but reigns it in towards the back and adds more nectarine alongside kiwi. Can’t get over how complex this is. Very happy to have some of this on the way and probably ordered too little. Thanks for the intro @Mark Flesher ! — 8 years ago

Sauvignon blanc is dominant on the nose. Loads of grass, lemon peel, grapefruit, herbaceous elements, and salinity. Palate hits fast with acid and citrus notes, which quickly planes into a more softer, round, elegant finish. Chardonnay enters the party late but makes a great impression. Really nice blend, two varietals highlighting some of their best attributes in one bottle. — 10 years ago
2010 auf dem Weingut (schwäbische Auswanderer) verkostet und gekauft, daher vielleicht nicht ganz objektiv, der Wein kommt verdammt frisch und lecker, super PL — 10 years ago
Really good and smooth, well-balanced for the "house" happy hour wine being served in Gig Harbor Hub where U.S. open private planes land. — 11 years ago
