Domaine Grand Romane

Château Pavie

Saint-Èmilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2003 pours a deep ruby with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some light light sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of ripe and desiccated dark fruits, green bell pepper, leather, tobacco, earth, and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and satisfying. This was pretty impressive right out of the gate and seemed to show really well despite the challenging (historically hot at the time) vintage. Drink now through 2044. — 2 days ago

Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1995

1995 vintage. Good fill. Excellent cork with minimal saturation. Decanted and throwing a tad extra sediment…a nice mix of chunky and powdery sed. Tasted after 30 minutes and 2 hours open and decanted. Light-medium body. Dark cherry and earth in the nose. These transferred over and slapped on a fudge chocolate note on the finish. In a good place now and not improving. Would seem to hold steady in this standing for another 3-4 years. 6.6.24. — 22 days ago

Underrated and underpriced. And that nose!

Clos de Tart Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2006

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2006 Clos de Tart was one of the better wines from Sylvain Pitiot's era. It has evolved a little since my last tasting in 2018. The broody black fruit on the nose still oddly harks toward Bordeaux. It's not as tight-fisted as before. The palate is structured with a lot of substance; what it lacks in elegance, it compensates with sheer bravura. Perhaps it just lacks the precision on the finish to compel you back for another sip. This wine is for those who seek Burgundy Grand Cru with body. (Neal Martin, Vinous, June 2024)

Domaine Dujac

Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2014

Delectable Wine
9.5

The 2014 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru puts in a convincing performance. With brambly red berry fruit on the nose, the coolness of the growing season allows the mineralité of this to really shine, with time in the glass revealing hints of autumn bonfire/fireside hearth. The palate is beautifully structured. It's saline with darker fruit than the aromatics. Quite linear and what you might call "vertical" in style, this is a superb expression of the Grand Cru that still needs a bit of time in bottle. (Neal Martin, Vinous, June 2024)

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2004

2 hour decant(decent chunky sediment). A stunning dark crimson color with little bricking. On the nose: expressive perfumed notes of dark red fruit, creme de cassis, mushrooms, floral, touch of stewed meat and cigar box. Taste: velvety, classy, fresh wine with red fruit, minerals, herbal, earth, pencil lead and a nice peppery cedar/leather medium plus finish. Sure, maybe not the depth/concentration of a classic vintage, but I can sniff/sip this wine all night. YUM! Happy Father's day to me. — 12 days ago

Cuvée Vieilles Vignes Musigny Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2006

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2006 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru has a rambunctious nose with raspberry ripple and crushed strawberry scents, though it doesn't fully have the complexity of other vintages. The palate is chewy, slightly muscular and impressively dense. It's surly on the finish with markedly dry tannins that don't urge you back for more. It's the kind of Musigny that I feel would not be made under the present regime. (Neal Martin, Vinous, June 2024)
