Earthy but smooth tannins. Old world value. James Suckling 91 Pts maybe later with more air. But then I am not really calibrated today after just finishing 31 dry days. It’s good to be back. — 6 years ago
Nice Bordeaux ... Better in St Martin .. — 9 years ago
Reliable, delicious, and reasonable. Slightly on the fruitier end of the Bordeaux spectrum - gorgeous blackberry, plum and cassis, balanced by delicious chocolate, exotic tobacco, and good spice. Good acidity provides incredible length. Always amazing for the price. — 8 months ago
The 2016 Volnay Les Fremiets 1er Cru has a composed and harmonious bouquet with nicely integrated oak, perhaps just a little gamey in style although it does not dominate the overall aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy, quite firm tannin though coated with the fleshy fruit that one expects from a Volnay. I am not quite sure if the oak regime snugly fits the fruit profile. It seems to shave off too many edges on the finish, rending it simpler than it otherwise might have been. Perhaps bottle age will meliorate this Volnay since it certainly has good substance. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting in Burgundy. (Neal Martin, Vinous, October 2019) — 5 years ago
2016 vintage. You can't go wrong with the Domaines Martin wines these days, and they have made some of their best wines in this excellent vintage ( Gloria 2016 might well be the best ever!). This Cabernet Sauvignon dominated Haut-Médoc features a deep dark red colour, and a nose with cassis, cedar and dark chocolate. In the mouth it shows impeccable balance with the juicy black fruit balanced by fresh acidity and well-tamed tannin. Terrific value too. — 2 years ago
The 2010 Brane-Cantenac was picked September 27 to October 14. It remains closed on the nose despite vigorous aeration, although there are shards of light as it reveals gorgeous, stony black fruit and pencil lead aromas, plus a hint of iris. The palate is medium-bodied and incredibly well focused, displaying razor-sharp tannin and a balletic poise from start to finish that belies the awesome structure of this Margaux. It is almost clinical on the finish, completing a stunning Brane-Cantenac that has a long future ahead of it. A benchmark for Henri Lurton. Tasted at the Brane-Cantenac vertical at the château. Delightful and a great value for the second label from this producer — 8 years ago
Pinotman /// Andreas
Surprisingly close in style to the JJ from Martin Woods. Sweet Pinot fruit and cherry 🍒 but perhaps with an edge more to morello cherries. Build towards a drink now Burgh. 13.5%. I must say in the end after trying gazillion of burghs, Oregon and Cali Pinots. And lots of wine from Baden. The German - Enderle & Moll Pinots are the only Pinot which can hold my interest for longer than any other producer in the world. — 7 months ago
