Partly aged in oak gives it a subtle flavor, though the bouquet is unimpressive # — 5 months ago
A most classic of vintages for the wine. A dream glass for a lover of complex Rhône wines — 3 years ago
Holy cow! 2012 is the year and this bottle is my first from this vineyard. Earthy nose with a white pepper finish. Will seek out more and maybe 2013 too — 5 years ago
Dream Chablis. On point acidity, elegance and minerality. — 5 years ago
Juicy delicious relatively complex red with almost no tannin — 6 years ago
Had another bottle, aged well. Steve & Paula Black pursued a dream in 2003 and purchased a 110-acre vineyard located in the Red Hills of Dundee creating The Four Graces, named after their four daughters. Medium Ruby with surprisingly complex aromas of red fruits, herb and spice. On the palate cherry and raspberry flavors with tea and espresso notes adding a bit of pepper spice. Well balanced acidity with fine tannins, medium(+) length, ending with earthy notes. Nice value! Tasting Sample! — 6 years ago
The pro reviewer has it right: if you like Papillon you should seek out Aftermath. This 2014 might have been a wee bit past, or before, its prime: smooth; paired well with filet; but without the “kick” that would prompt me to rate it higher. I will go get a newer vintage and wait… — 4 months ago
In 1877, Illario and Leopoldo Ruffino laid the foundations of their dream to make Italian wines from the heart of Tuscany. Medium Ruby red color with aromas of dark berry fruit and earthy spice, blend of 80% Sangiovese with rest Merlot and Cab Sauv. On the palate flavors of black cherry and plum with tobacco, pepper and earthy cedar notes. Full-bodied, well balanced soft drying tannins on a smooth medium+ finish. Grab some Italian food and enjoy the great value wine. Consistent quality, a Fav!! — 7 months ago
Had this in Rome at VALENTYNE piano bar May 2023 — 3 years ago
Giornata Wines Luna Matta Vineyard Nebbiolo 2014: Medium body. Floral aromas. Red fruits. Cedar. Herbs. Fine tannins with a dry finish. Overall, an excellent expression of the Italian grape varietal Nebbiolo from Paso Robles, California! This is one wine you must seek out & try! Cheers🍷 — 5 years ago
Pale to mid Gold. Honeycomb, Quince with Apricot and a Charcoal note - wonderful aromatics which kept changing. Incredibly flavoursome with a creamy texture on the palate even though no oak ageing. Cumquat jam and apricot notes. A kaleidoscope of vibrant delicious flavours. Made from the little known Timorasso grape in Piedmont. Walter Massa was the saviour of this grape when much Timorasso was grubbed out in favour of the less troublesome Cortese to produce bulk quantities of the ubiquitous Gavi. They now grow the last few hectares of Timorasso in the world with minimal intervention, wild yeasts and no chemicals. Seek a bottle out for an exciting vinous journey. The 2016 Screaming Eagle is a positively stunning wine. An intense bouquet gives way to a wine of explosive energy and huge textural depth. Graphite, crushed rocks, menthol, sage and dark spice open up gradually in this reticent, brooding Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2016 is a towering, statuesque wine of the very highest level. That is the good news. The slightly less good news is that it will need a number of years in bottle to be at its very best. I wouldn't dream of touching a bottle anytime soon. The 2016 literally does scream, with tons of varietal Cabernet aromatics, flavors and structural drive. In a word: magnificent! (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, December 2018) — 7 years ago
Poured into a decanter about 30 minutes prior to service. The 2015 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some fine sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with gorgeous notes of red currants, Morello Cherry, mixed brambles, red and purple flowers, tobacco, black tea, iron rich earth, subtle cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is phenomenal and has me asking myself, “why don’t I seek out more Grattamacco?” Wow. Obviously a winner with lasagna. Drink now with some patience and through 2045. — 4 months ago
Drank for 2024 anniversary alongside 2015. Very dry still, could have aged longer still. Nice fruit, cherry, berries. Very tasty. Might grab another. — 2 years ago
Began as a dream of 2 friends, Ed Selyem & Burt Williams, who pursued weekend winemaking as a hobby in 1979 in a garage in Forestville, CA, and made their first commercial vintage in 1981. Deep Ruby red with aromas of berry fruits with citrus spice. On the palate flavors of cherry, blackberry & raspberry, cacao, with notes of vanilla and spice. Elegant fine tannins, long finish, lively acidity ending with fruit and sweet spice notes. Pricey but will not disappoint, worth a try! — 4 years ago
Capsicum, peppercorns, and cedar. Silky red fruits. A blind taster’s dream Chinon. Always good, but a stunning value in great vintages. Happy to have half a case of this. — 6 years ago
Soft and peppery smooth. Wonderful Drank like a dream — 7 years ago
Excellent wine for the price tag. Not very complex but still a nice house or table wine. Red fruit and pepper aromas and also the first flavors initially on the palate. Not much on the finish except for tannins and acid. — 8 years ago
