Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

1989 vintage. Last tasted 3 years ago (9.6). Nice fill. Durand used to open. Cork 95% saturated with extensive bottle rim cleaning involved before pouring. Not decanted. Tight, minty nose throughout along with a decided, lingering zinc note under the tongue at the finish line. Tasted 2 hours after opening. Power but without delineation. Just a consistent, forgettable push. Nothing wrong with the wine...it just needed more air/time and a decant but it wasn't my call. Feel like the zinc flavor would have dissipated/blown off with more time. Good but more memorable for what it wasn't vs what it was. Pity and an entire wasting of what could have been. 11.21.25. — a month ago

Enderle & Moll

Liaison Pinot Noir 2019

Needs a good day to open up. At first quite brutal in an unyielding way. I left this on my custom Argon line for a week. Reviewed this many times before. Absolutely delicious and driven by earth herbs and hint of red fruits. More or less for aficionados only (I don’t want to be condescending here) as so much patience is required. Drink now because i do not expect the fruit to hang on all that long. — 10 months ago

Please bring the condescension. Add some accent marks and spice things up a bit. The wallpaper here could use it.

Morgon Gamay

Always superb. Ripe, juicy cherries on the verge of jammy but still fantastic freshness. Pink flowers and some minerality buzzing around the mid palate as well. Began to fall apart after an hour or two but still, hits every single time. — 2 years ago

California Chardonnay 2023

Surprisingly bright and tropical for a Cali chard. Lighter body and slightly mineraly. Very pleasant — 10 months ago

Caymus Vineyards

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

At our second special Caymus dinner on Sky Princess serving this wine. I’ve had lots of Caymus wines over the years. This is in line with the brand, but not what I remember from the wines from the late 70’s. As the price increased, I lost interest. It’s ok, but I feel there are better wines at the price point for the Cabernet Sauvignon. — 2 years ago

Insignia Estate Grown Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1997

Flight #1 of our 1997 Retrospective. Presented single-blind; no formal notes. This had a really compelling mix of fruit and non-fruit notes; multifaceted, balanced. Superb structure. Bordeaux-like. Called this “Insignia”. This was my favorite of the flight and the most complete wine in the line-up. Drinking well now and should hold that way well through 2027. — 2 years ago

Châteauneuf du Pape Grenache Blend 2020

A lighter (14%) style. Bright Grenache fruit, lots of stony minerality. Pretty nice acids. Atypical but quite nice. — 9 months ago

Turley

Old Vines California Zinfandel 2020

Revisiting the ‘20 Old Vines after a year or two in the cellar. Dusky clear purple. Sweet cherries and earth on the nose. Smooth, rich, almost no tannin. A lovely creamy, dark finish like plum pie with ice cream. These Old Vine blends are some of the best values in the Turley line up if not all of CA Zinfandel. — 2 years ago
