It’s been three years since my last review of this little slice of double trouble. Loose and thorny crown of creamy white with cartoon bone lacing plus bubble font. Golden overall, but reddish tinges turn it pink. Banana bread, with honey butter, a bit of molasses and orange marmalade scented, but the breakfast stops there. Healthy dollops of of honey buoy herbs de Provence, golden apple, juniper sharpness, lemon-arabica, pecan, and extra lavender. .

The 4th release of Founder’s Reserve. A slightly different cuvée than the previous three versions of Founders Reserve. The wine pours a deep ruby with a translucent core, no signs of sediment; medium viscosity. Medium+ intensity with a mixed fruit set on the nose: blue, black and red fruits with spices and purple flowers. On the pallet, the fruit is generous. Confirm the mixed fruits, some black pepper and baking spices. The finish is long and with medium, dusty tannins and medium+ acid. The wine is dry and the finishes long. Chocolate and vanilla all day. Shocker, lots of bourbon notes. It actually tastes like a slightly boozier version of Founders Backwoods Bastard, despite being a stout and not a scotch ale. Will let this one age another year or two before I have the next bottle. — 5 years ago

The 2015 Clos Mogador is a absolutely stunning release from this historic Priorat estate. Located in Gratallops, in the heart of the Priorat hills, René Barbier, one of the founders of the Priorat revolution, crafts an incredible blend of 40% Garnacha (lauched from 80 year old vines), 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Syrah and 5% Morvedre, Pinot Noir, and Merlot. This immediately reveals seductive aromas of red cherry preserves, rose petals and roasted figs. On the palate this is ripe and intense, yields bright flavors of orange rind, red cherry and red raspberry with wild thyme and garrigue flavors. Reddish amber color a surprise as Turkish coffee mocha latte just jumps from the bottle. Dark chocolate sea salt with caramel, and roasted nut evocations; all in a darker tonality. Bubble-gator lacings smooth in a viscous river. Bitter arabica and cacao nut greet the palate with honey comb and bee pollen. Brazil nut, cappuccino cigar, Java, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg sarsaparilla and cola. Lip smacking as your palate politely asks for a replay. Quality conjuring with smooth talking flavors. Rich, decadent and enticing without compromising its power. Joe cool.
