This Chilean Pinot Noir offers a nose that is heavy with cola, black tea and coffee grounds. The savory aromas actually outweigh the fruit. It is a medium-weight wine, not very deeply tinted, and it rides light on the palate. The acidity is brisk and the tannins firm. This is not a Burgundian take on the grape, for certain. It is more playful than elegant, more rustic than beautiful.

Dusty on the outside but pristine on the inside. I’ve tasted this a handful of times over the last 15 years and it’s developing at a glacier-like pace. Nose of tart fruit and spice which shows up in the palate as well. Silky tannins that take a little time to build up. Easy to drink for a medium bodied red. It's holding up well to hearty spicy chilli, and the spice of the food is letting the fruit show more through the spice notes of the wine. A big and rich lager, toasted barley beer.

BREWER'S NOTE:

This richly styled lager is perhaps far from a traditional Doppel Bock due to the use ofwine barrels during aging, Calistoga Well Water as well as our use of Glacier hops. A 5 week 55 F fermentation yielded a crisp and malty driven beer with mild hop notes. Lot 15040727 was aged in freshly emptied first use Petite Verdot French oak barrel from 2012 where it aged for another two months. The aromas are very bold and bright showcasing the impacts of the barrel while the power of this 9.1% Alc. v/v lager pushes back both with flavor and palate texture. These beers are Membership only releases. Lot 16040693 was aged in a French Oak puncheon for 3 months and has an alcohol by volume of 7.8% v/v. Our upcoming release Lot 170613150 spent 5 months in a relatively new French Oak barrel and with an alcohol of 8.6% v/v is more of an Eisbock in style, although probably our best effort to date with wonderful malt tones integrated with oak spice as well. — 6 years ago

Clear & pure as a alpin glacier.
Shy herbs, salty notes and faint whiff of underripe lemon.
On the palate this is crisp, lean and so juicy. Great purity and minerality. So devoid of fruit and yet with a lot of character. This is surprisingly nice and highly drinkable. — 4 years ago

This wine is dark and savory. The black fruit comes along with cedar, vanilla and a chalky earth tone. Nothing like Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, but more in line with Paso Robles. Lots of South American minerals having a bit of roughhouse here. — 6 years ago
