Round 2 of blind tasting and we all got stumped, but then it was obvious. Pale golden yellow hues that match some golden apple, saline lemon zest, and orange pith aromas. Ripe and bruised fruit that blends in with honeysuckle and wax. Slight amount of spice with a dry and moderate acidity finish. You could see this a mile away being delivered on a plate of oysters. — 2 years ago

Happy International #RieslingDay to all my fellow Riesling fans 🥂

Mr. Spittoon and I decided to delve into the cellar and we pulled out this @inniskillinwines 2017 Icewine Riesling from the Okanagan Valley in Canada 🇨🇦

My brother and sister-in-law gave this to us in 2019 after their visit to Canada (which is the worlds largest ice wine producer!).

What is Icewine 🧊🥂?

It’s not wine you add ice too 😯

But it is wine which is made from frozen grapes 🍇. The grapes naturally freeze on the vines and are picked when the temperature drops below -9 degrees Celsius 🥶

Not much liquid comes out of the grapes when they are pressed. So what comes out is super concentrated and full of luxurious flavour 🤤

The natural high acidity in Riesling grapes means the variety is perfect for Icewine production 🙌

I’m not a big sweet wine drinker but when they have that perfect balance of sweetness and acidity, they are pure magic in the mouth 👌

And this Riesling Icewine was exactly that! From its beautiful golden amber colour to the mouthwatering aromas of juicy oranges, Manuka honey and stone fruits. The flavours flow through to the palate and it’s a true pleasure to drink with its lovely acidity. We matched it with cheese, prosciutto and crackers - which were the perfect compliment 👌

This one is the "Lazy River Vineyard" one... On the nose, this is raspberry and red cherry... On the palate, this is raspberry, red cherry, cherry liqueur, blackberry, and cherry cough syrup... There is some acidity... It's lively... The tannins are everywhere like pillows... I think I'd like this settled down with some more years in the bottle... It really is big and not so much my style... I notice the blackberry and even blueberry notes toward the end. Cigar box. A long finish of perceived raspberry syrup. I'm very aware of the alcohol level drinking this. I feel myself getting a canker sore in my mouth. If young, big wines are your thing, I think you'll like it. — 6 months ago

This is Garland by Hester Creek in the Okanagan. Pronounced nose of blackberry... On the palate, it's again that concentrated blackberry... Some dried grass dustiness here too. Very nice ripeness... Medium acidity and no e roundy tannin. Ready to drink now. Loved it. — 3 years ago

Decanted for 1 hour prior to drinking. Begins with a fairly hot nose of cedar and dark fruit and transitions into a powerfully juicy palate of blackberry, leather, clove and bell pepper. A superb expression of Canadian Cab Franc. Paired with a 20 day aged striploin with tarragon-sauce and both golden and red beets as well as Scarlett runner beans we grew in our garden. 👌🏻 🍷 — 4 years ago

2018 vintage.
76 % Cabernet Franc, 15 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 9 % Malbec. 20 months in French oak barriques.
All estate fruit from 3 vineyards in Naramata: Rockyfeller, Golden Mile and Freedom 75. All fruit is hand picked and sorted.
Dark ruby red in colour. Ripe raspberries, black fruit, eucalyptus and cigar box on the nose.
Cassis, dark berries, savoury herbs and scrub brush with smooth, fine tannins and a crisp, acidic fresh finish.

2018 vintage.
Whole cluster pressed and fermented in a combination of 50 % stainless steel, 25 % French oak and 25 % concrete tulip tanks. Rested 9 months on the lees then bottled without fining.
Aromas of lemon blossom, caramel and nutmeg.
Smooth flavours of ripe golden apple, yellow pear and almonds with a creamy Stoney minerality on the finish.
Very well balanced at 13.5 % ABV. — 2 years ago

2010 vintage.
Tantalus has some of the oldest Riesling vines in Okanagan Valley.
Bright and golden in the glass.
Honey, apple, petrol, golden plum and white peach on the nose. Lemon-lime, honey, apricots, petrol and golden raisins in the mouth. The acidity is mouth watering. This wine could age another 10 years and will only improve in complexity.
