Switch Back

Peterson Family Vineyard Merlot 2007

It’s going over the edge. Has a bit of prune that I don’t recall in other tastings. — 2 months ago

Château Laribotte

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2018

Still young but on the wayyyy baby. Maybe I should drink Sauternes more often but generally I swoon just a bit on the overripe nectarine-ginger-lemonade marmalade medley. Perfect with gingersnaps and rye. Both of switch get it — 2 years ago

Delectable identified the incorrect wine. It’s been years since I tried the Yoeman vineyard.

Kumeu River

Hunting Hill Chardonnay 2014

Exceptional wine and so classically elegant (not using the B word) except that its hiding an extra point of alcohol (14%) behind an unassuming pale hay glow that looks light and lean. I love the bait and switch.

The delicate sprinkled spices of lemon curd and vanilla and toasted coconut shaving juxtapose the power in the palette - weight and viscosity and length to go the distance.

10 years in, in a perfect spot.

Cain Five Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2008

2008 vintage. Big structure. Still needs another decade to toggle the switch from “hold” to “drink.” — 3 years ago

Reserve Finger Lakes Dry Riesling 2019

Tried to switch it up from my go to Chateau St. Micheal Riesling which is hard for me to do but, this one is actually better. The fruit taste is more tropical. Smooth finish. I used to be savingnon blanc guy in the summer , but summer 2021 I'm turning in to Riesling Man 🏔 😎 — 4 years ago

Le Cigare Volant Red Rhone Blend

Delicious! Cherry and blackberry. Great balance. After the switch this wine has gotten a little thinner. It this vintage is wonderful. 15 at BD. Would definitely get more! — 2 years ago

Côtes du Jura Savagnin 2018

Sensational. In both the literal and traditiional senses. And this is all about senses. Cerebral switch flicker. Vin-neutropic. You can let it breathe for a week at room temp and it won't give an inch.

The aromas are beautifully saturated with oxidized notes. Honey butterscotch, beeswax and Kentucky bourbon. Tropical notes. Papaya apricot. Floral stuff. Violets, white jasmine. And the chemical residue of a new leather handbag.

It tastes hot, but its only 12.5%. Finish powerful and long to completely exhaust your neurons.

@Ely Cohn Macle, Bourdy and puffery are my three Jura faves for classic estates.

@Lyle Fass and what about the non classics? How do you feel about Francois rousset Martin?

@Ely Cohn I’m not really into the non classic guys. The variability kills me.
