Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2012

These used to be cheap - not any more 40$ for the new vintage this was 26$. Classic and super elegant. A ton of tannins left: 14%. Fermented dark olives. Dark cherries. Way better than the 2013 chianti reserva I popped for our italian dinner club. These are the wines kids should try - but hey our brillant marketing 🤡 priced them out of trying quality nebbiolo so they switch to cocktails and beer! Well done. Will go for 5-10 more years with ease. — 3 months ago

@Pinotman /// Andreas always so good. The single vineyard ones used to be the best high end values in the world imho. Not anymore. Still great though.

Jean Bourdy

Côtes du Jura Savagnin 2018

Sensational. In both the literal and traditiional senses. And this is all about senses. Cerebral switch flicker. Vin-neutropic. You can let it breathe for a week at room temp and it won't give an inch.

The aromas are beautifully saturated with oxidized notes. Honey butterscotch, beeswax and Kentucky bourbon. Tropical notes. Papaya apricot. Floral stuff. Violets, white jasmine. And the chemical residue of a new leather handbag.

It tastes hot, but its only 12.5%. Finish powerful and long to completely exhaust your neurons.

@Ely Cohn I’m not really into the non classic guys. The variability kills me.

Maison L'Envoyé

Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2012

Wow.... first swig after the twenty bench cabernet Sauvignon.... dull. But let’s consider .... Napa to France... bold switch.
It has opened up and light and refreshing and quite pleasant.

Giaconda

Estate Vineyard Chardonnay

Guess what it’s Chardonnay! If you couldn’t get that then maybe switch to spirits. Very sulphitic in character both on the nose and palate. When you only really drink natural wines this old school wine isn’t what you want any more. The decanter still had a glass in it at the end of the night. — a year ago

Delicious! Cherry and blackberry. Great balance. After the switch this wine has gotten a little thinner. It this vintage is wonderful. 15 at BD. Would definitely get more! — 3 years ago

There is just no holiday weekend or weekend that the Rosé Champagne is not coming out at the D&S lounge.

Really love the deeper, richer, riper fruits of the Ruinart & gentler chalkiness as a nice switch up from my addiction to Billecart-Salmon Rosé.

Bloody marvellous wine from Reinhard, 12 years old but still rocking. Before the style switch and this wine brings back some great memories visiting Reinhard in those days. Loving this wine with he hints of grapefruit and lime. Oiled style with silk in the mouth and ok it’s aged but tasted great!! — 7 years ago

Kumeu River

Hunting Hill Chardonnay 2014

Exceptional wine and so classically elegant (not using the B word) except that its hiding an extra point of alcohol (14%) behind an unassuming pale hay glow that looks light and lean. I love the bait and switch.

The delicate sprinkled spices of lemon curd and vanilla and toasted coconut shaving juxtapose the power in the palette - weight and viscosity and length to go the distance.

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2018

Still young but on the wayyyy baby. Maybe I should drink Sauternes more often but generally I swoon just a bit on the overripe nectarine-ginger-lemonade marmalade medley. Perfect with gingersnaps and rye. Both of switch get it — 4 years ago

Two Hands

Lily's Garden McLaren Vale Shiraz 2008

This was a big ol' boy! After the 84 Chappellet, I had to switch gears a little bit! Second wine served blind to more or less the same crowd. Poured black and inky. Nose with a little bit of meat but this was mostly black dark roasted fruits. Entry was dark blackberry, sweet plums, figs, baking spice. Power. Lots of guesses for syrah and petite sirah and I don't think anyone really thought this one was 11 years old. Finished with a lot of roasted sweet and chewy tannin. I didn't think I was in the mood for this kind of wine until I realized that I was in the mood for this kind of wine! I think this one has another five to ten years easily. Wondering why this one seems to get lower scores on Delectable, but I have a feeling that most people don't give these the age they need. — 7 years ago

This was served to me blind. My first comment was “this tastes familiar...”, unfortunately, I wasn’t able to recall the ‘08 Two Hands BG I had earlier this year to call this Aussie Shiraz! My guess was Napa petite sirah, though I did guess the high ABV. Almost motor oil black in the glass. Dense. I didn’t get any meat here, but I did pick up quite a bit of peppercorn alongside rich and ripe blackberries, blueberries and fig on the nose. Unabashed. Liqueur like on the palate with Andes mint chocolate and baked mixed berry pie. At 11yrs old, still quite powerful.
