2022/8. I do think the great Etna reds are Italy’s Burgundies (if Burgundy was grown on a volcano in the Mediterranean)...perfume, flowery red fruit but with smokier, darker elements and that somehow autumnal thing that seems to run in many classic Italian reds (Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Nerello) — 4 years ago
Delicious!! Need I say more… — 5 years ago
From mag. Had not yet tried this wine with this much age before and didn’t know what to expect but it was really quite nice. Develops kind of like a gamay or Pinot. Black cherry and raspberry still there but definitely leaner and more acid-driven and savory at this point. Dried flowers, stewed tomato, dried herbs, mushroom, maybe a little sweet tobacco and mesquite. Overall I think I would still drink this young for the exuberant lip smacking red fruit but this was interesting — 5 years ago
Wow! Chardonnay from Mt Edna! Jewel-like, pale yellow but dry and minerally like what we like at Coche Corton Charlie…and these prices! I want it!

Mariano García’s final vintage at Vega Sicilia. What a great bottle.
The nose opens with damp forest floor, leather, cedar, and quiet red fruit; subtle, reserved, endlessly composed.
On the palate, it’s silk laid gently over structure: dried cherry, tobacco, graphite, and savory earth carried by fine-grain tannins and measured acidity.
The finish reads like the final lines of a great novel: inevitable, complete, and exactly as it should be. And already, there’s a touch of nostalgia, because I don’t know when I’ll encounter something like this again. — 8 months ago
2022/7/13-14. A mix of blue and red fruits, sun-blasted rock, toasted spice and wild herbs - a stimulating mix of the mountain and Mediterranean, in perhaps more extreme relief than in other Etna reds that I tend to drink. — 4 years ago
I wasn’t expecting to like this as much as I do, for some reason. Anyway, this is excellent. Very fragrant (with air), showing intense sweet hay, meadow flowers, ginger ale notes, crisp pear, and crushed stone. Intense in the mouth too, but with a weightlessness that is very appealing. Long, minerally, bone dry finish with an almost Muscadet-like quinine thing at the end. — 5 years ago
Opened about an hour prior to service; enjoyed over the course of two days. Fairly consistent throughout but maybe even a touch better on Day 2? The 1976 “Unico” pours a garnet color with a slightly orange rim and a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with intoxicating notes of cassis, black cherry, red plum, dried flowers, coffee (for dayz), tobacco, leather, sandalwood, some organic earth and a mix of cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long with gorgeous texture. This bottle came across remarkably young and supremely elegant. So much so, that I thought it was an inspired decision by one of our brothers-in-wine to include it in this particular lineup. We had a little leftover for the next day and it continued to show well. Brilliant stuff. Drink now through 2046+ — 17 days ago

This was perfect right from the bottle to a 20 minute decant. I felt like an angel baby swatted in cotton candy after drinking this one. Paired with meats and dishes at Bazaar in Washington DC. — 9 months ago
It's austere, but that's why you bought a taurasi. Dried flowers, boysenberries, raspberries. Almost like an amarone. Well made; I think average score a tad low. Better than the 2016. — 4 years ago
First sips were disappointing in the brevity of the hit on the palate. Gave it an hour and it lengthened beautifully. This wine has a ton of fruit (crushed sweet red berries), velvety tannins, and great structure. I would be fascinated to see what 10+ years does to it — 5 years ago
Wonderful wine. From what I remember, there was an underlying savory/mineral note to it which was next level. — 6 years ago
