I heard a rumor that there’s a competition between DRC and Jean-Michel Guillon when it comes to the amount of new French oak used. While I can’t substantiate that, I can confirm that the oak used for this bottle smells expensive and it certainly seems to work in Guillon’s favor because this is a really tasty treat. The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin “VV” pours a deep ruby with a transparent core; medium viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and tart red fruits: Bing cherry, strawberry, raspberry, pomegranate, porcini, dry forest floor, and beautiful balance of cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and absolutely delicious. I tend to be fearful of liberal use of oak but in the end, I try not to judge if the wine is in balance and in this case, it most certainly is. Drink now through 2036+. — 7 days ago
So thrilling and classy. Super pure and nimble with just heroic aromatics. DRC like with a supple, satin textured and aristocratic palate. — 6 months ago
2017 vintage. Last tasted 01.04.25 (9.3). Still in a state of transition and dropped some weight in six months. Orange citrus peel and cinnamon finishing flavors more prominent now. 07.06.25. — 22 days ago
Wine is not effing around. Big wine from a warm vintage but not jammy. Massive smoked bacon, game, thyme, polished, well integrated oak, red and black fruits, cassis, violets. Enjoyed over several days — 3 months ago
Transparent ruby red with violet. Oak, Vanilla. Matured Strawberry, raspberry. Earthy. Coal? Cinnamon and Nutmeg from oak barrel. Slight herb and stem and red flower. Quite ample aroma. Sweet vanilla. Smooth. A bit tannic and acidic at opening. Juicy after decanting. BOURGOGNE LES GRAVIERS JEAN-MICHEL GUILLON 22 @6600, Enoteca, 250215-250224 — 5 months ago
