Loxarel

Fermentat en Amfores Xarello 2019

Wowwwww. Flower and salt on the nose with a little lime squeeze. Slightly spritzy, creamy and salty on the palate. Bitter phenolics but with an interesting lingering sweetness on the finish. Definitely displays the amphora aging. The perfect wine for four courses at cadence. — 5 years ago

Klipsun Vineyard Red Wine Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Petit Verdot 2003

Lots of berry still left on this one. Tasted a hint of licorice still. Lovely lovely wine. I will always be impressed with how well Ben’s wines age. — 7 years ago

Ben’s wines are just the best. They age beautifully, case in point that his first vintage is tasty so well right now. Really good with spicy meat. Lovely. — 7 years ago

Liaison Pinot Noir 2014

Lean and precise. Cranberry sauce when it's not Thanksgiving. An accent you can't quite place but revel in the cadence and timbre of. Charred sage and rosemary. — 8 years ago

Troon Vineyard

Longue Carabine Marsanne Blend 2014

A bit of a kitchen sink blend, reminiscent of some of the complex whites I've run across from South Africa—Troon Vineyard's Longue Carabine 2014 is composed of 43.81% Marsanne, 27.35% Viognier, 12.65% Vermentino, 8.79% Riesling, 5.0% Roussanne, and 2.4% Sauvignon Blanc, all from the Applegate Valley—offers cadence in its aromatic range. Bruised pear, yellow apple, star gazer lily, a pinch of granulated honey. Vermentino shapes the palate with it's characteristic mineral spine, giving lift to this fleshy Southern Oregon white. 12.5% ABV | Sample — 9 years ago

Saunter Wines

Swagger Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

This comes from the personal label of vineyard manager Josh Clark and his wife Heather. Winemaker is Thomas Rivers Brown.

This is Samuel L. Jackson cast as Henry David Thoreau. A richly polished voice, with an attitude and a cadence that would even make gibberish entertaining. Beyond the ostensible hedonism, though, there's a substance that is layered, nuanced, and contemplative. But the former can certainly make it hard to focus on the latter.

Opens with some obvious, but not overpowering, malo butteriness which sets up perfectly for the blueberry pimp coat that takes center stage, surrounded by pencil shavings, crème de cassis, licorice, baked fig, and cigar box.

Coda Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2017

Dark reddish purple. Inviting nose and medium-bodied palate of red berries, pomegranate, and a hint of toasted nuts on the moderate finish. Medium tannins. Medium acidity. A most typical example of mid-range Washington. The midpoint between New World fruit (but dark fruit) and Old World structure makes for an excellent American food wine. Pair with anything from burgers to roots to prime rib. Just do so by 2027. — 6 years ago

Cibonne

Clos Cibonne Côtes de Provence Cru Classé Tibouren Rosé

The spectacularly viscous, savory, herbal Provencial rose’s are a big favorite but for most of the best ones, you spend a lot more for subtle, though not insignificant improvements.

Clos Cibonne seems to be a well known exception. You get the extra joie de vivre sans the premium. It’s one of the few wines I buy with cadence. Heavy on orange and rose hips and follows with the herbs we love - rosemary, fennel, thyme, some tropical notes filling the gaps.

Guarachi

Sun Chase Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2013

Really ripe and super rich, with a gregarious demeanor and an almost larger than life personality. Distinctively unconventional with an unmistakable cadence, and completely infectious. This is the JB Smoove of Pinot Noir (or Leon Black, rather). Massive black cherry, lavender pastiche, and loaded with bramble fruit. It brings the ruckus (to the ladies). — 9 years ago

Cotes Catalanes Vieilles Vignes Syrah-Grenache Blend

Complex is an understatement! Undulating red and black fruit notes dance with spice to an acidic cadence that only fun food can appreciate :) oh my, and I forgot to mention the chocolate… Not pairing with, rather – inside the mid-palate and lengthy finish. A wild ride that solved several dinner pairing conundrums...me likes!! — 8 years ago

Bel Canto Cara Mia Vineyard Red Blend 2013

When in Rome (as they say) 75% Cab Franc, 25% Merlot. This needs air or you'll think it uninspiring (was best the next day). Violets and slight French oak nose. Smooth, clean blue fruits with tannins up front fading at mid palate. Med/short finish. Solid wine. — 9 years ago
