La Tâche Pinot Noir 1964

Soft and subtle fruit. Delicate floral notes with bright and light finish. Haunting and evocative. You need to lean in a bit. Very good. — 4 days ago

Marey-Monge Romanée-St. Vivant Pinot Noir 2014

Decanted for a half hour. Red berries and underbrush very complex flavors. Tremendous mid palate and was starting to shut down after about an hour in. — 16 days ago

Richebourg Pinot Noir 1988

Oh boy…is this real life? A DRC from back in the days when Lalou was involved in the process. Enjoyed out of the Baccarat DRC glass which is hilarious to behold but I’ll be damned if wasn’t a pretty effective glass. The 1988 Richebourg pours a deep ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with heady notes of ripe and slightly desiccated red and black fruits: strawberry, spiced meat, red flowers, forest floor, and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long with lovely, savory minerals. There is so much density. Honestly, this still needs a ton of air. It’s remarkable how youthful it’s showing. Drink now with loads of patience and through 2038. Bottle No. 4044. — a month ago

Cuvée Duvault-Blochet Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2002

When you see DRC on the label it’s difficult not to have preconceptions. The nose pops with red cherries ,stems and spice. The palate is hit with weighty red and black fruit which carries a healthy dose of acid. Surprisingly lacked the complexity and finish I was hoping for from a vintage like this let alone the producer. — 14 days ago

@Scott@Mister A’s-San Diego The Duvault I believe started to be produced commercially in 1999. Those with more knowledge, please chime in.

@Ira Schwartz Have only ever seen the GC Montrachet, Richebourg, La Tâche, Romanée St. Vivant, Échézeaux, Grands Échézeaux. Granted, we’re not dealing with thousands of cases produced for any particular offering. Hafta assume that a few of the “lesser offerings” likely don’t escape the cozy confines of Burgundy.

Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier

Musigny Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2000

The 2000 Musigny pours a ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, this is an absolute smoke show with the most beautiful, delineated notes of fresh, ripe red fruits: strawberry, raspberry, licorice, red flowers, sous bois and gentle cool and warm spices. This beauty effortlessly dances across the palate, presenting dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish lasts an eternity. The texture is like finest mulberry silk. It’s weightless and yet, there was an undeniable richness. Utterly brilliant and for me, a core memory wine. Not that this comes as any surprise, but it was fabulous with the canard au vin rouge. Drink now through 2040. — a month ago
