Pale Lemon in colour. Smoky sulphidic notes - struck match to the max - like a burnt matchbox factory. A totally different story on the beautiful medium + bodied palate verging on opulent. A sweetish peachy palate - downright delicious. Some good judges say this is the best Chardonnay in Australia. If not, definitely in the top 3. Wonderful with fresh oysters. — 4 years ago
This wine started as an 8.7 and very quickly became a 9.1 in my books. It hits you strong with a spicy earthy feel but as you let it sit and breathe - it evolves into a lovely berry infused flavor that is rather sweet with a slight hint of sour tartness. Gorgeous wine. Must drink. 2014 Vintage. — 10 years ago
Matchbox Jess goodbye — 12 years ago
The night after Thanksgiving I am still giving thanks to family and friends for the great gifts they bring me. Tonight I have opened the 2015 Bernard Baudry Chinon Les Granges.
On the nose there is roasted red pepper, raspberry sauce, ripe strawberries, some matchbox, herbal notes and a bit of soil background.
On the palate the green bell pepper is ever present, sour cherry, tart raspberry, under ripe plum, an herbal note and crushed gravel.
This wine is medium bodied with medium + acidity, medium smooth tannin that goes into the medium to long tingly finish. Continue having a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 7 years ago
Great wine at this stage. Colour reflects bottle ageing, bouquet is complex and intriguing. Tannin still present although well integrated. Fresh despite the years, on the palate highlights minerality and tertiary aromas like dried figs and matchbox. Nice length, very food friendly — 7 years ago
The nose has good dark fruit, plum, black raspberries, black cherries. Hints of matchbox and oak. On the palate we find the dark fruit hits right up front. The black cherries are very pronounced. Very smooth, a little spice with a big mouth feel and a good tannin play. A very nice Right Bank and recommend to the Merlot lover out there. — 11 years ago

The other evening we opened the 2019 Bergström Gregory Ranch Pinot Noir Yamhill-Carlton AVA. From Newberg, Oregon.
On the nose is strawberry, cherry, raspberry, cranberry, spice, rose petal, barnyard, matchbox and earth.
On the palate there is strawberry, cherry, raspberry, cranberry, spice, mushroom and earth.
This wine is medium to full bodied with a smooth bright mouthfeel medium + acidity and medium fine polished tannins that leaves you with a long red fruit forest floor finish. This is a seriously good wine. I hope everyone's holiday weekend has been one good with lots of sharing and happiness with family and friends. Stay safe and healthy the rest of the weekend.
