Beatty Ranch Howell Mountain Zinfandel 2021

Delicious Zin.

Good fruit pop and a solid backbone and structure to the wine. Wife said “this is a Zin?!?!?”

Paired well with miso veggie chicken

Beatty Ranch is one of the top 3 or 4 pieces of Earth where Zinfandel was deigned by Providence to flourish.

Howell Mountain Malbec 2019

This is the Malbec from Howell mountain, small production and super cool wine.

Wild blue and black fruits come through with a touch of gaminess to begin with. Has a bit of acidity but it’s medium bodied and hangs pretty well.

Overall - lovely and delicious wine. Nice change of pace.

Progeny

Special Selection Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Neat little comparison, as this was tasted alongside a 2009 O'Shaughnessy Mount Veeder Cabernet. It was interesting how these at first were very different, then started to converge, then started to diverge significantly. At the end of the comparison, this one was a two-point winner. This is a nose of classic Napa Cabernet. Blackberry currant, pepper that almost singes your nostril hair. Entry is full-bodied, Blackberry, blueberry, baking spices, currant, licorice, herbs. And just kept adding another layer and another layer. On the finish, softened tannins are noted yet toasted quality is still extremely present. This wine is showing superb integration, and in my opinion it's still probably 3 to 5 years away from the very top of the hill. This one has a long life ahead. — 5 years ago

Another fun comparison from same vintage, same winemaker, and same fruit! Difference is that this wine from Progeny is the choice barrels of the Veeder fruit. Like the O’Shaughnessy on steroids. Wow! Cashmere. So plush and rich in profile. Nutmeg and sweet cocoa on the nose with ripe blue and black fruit. Baking spices, baked mixed berry pie, sandalwood, lush and fresh dark fruits to the core. Grainy yet soft tannins at the finish. Still improving. Killer bottle. Thanks @Mark Flesher
