Luigi Tecce

Riserva Puro Sangue Taurasi Aglianico 2019

Another killer Tecce. Wow. No decant. Blackberries, blueberry compote and citrus accents on the nose. Very assertive tannins and acidity (still a bit young). Tart cherry, tangerine, ash, and dried herbs with a gamey and metallic quality. Such a long finish. Really feeling the tannins, but balanced by all the complex dark fruit. Mouth-puckering. Let’s see what happens on day 2!

Day 2 is even nicer. The acidity calmed down and I’m getting some notes of unsweetened dark chocolate. Softer tannins, but still a good grip. Dark fruits are solid, with more black cherry than berries. Just great.

Monte De Oro

Cuvée de Oro Red Blend 2019

Every year the pop and pour drinkability of this blend gets better! This year the blend is 60% Mourvedere 25% Grenache and 15% Syrah. My appreciation for the less common primary grape varietals has escalated by Monte de Oro’s wise blending and aging techniques. The nose is slightly shy. The palate is a pleasantly unique balanced combination of fruit and earthy components - with a touch of lingering spice. A near perfect balance of juicy acidity and soft tannins that makes this approachable for most. — 2 months ago

Ruffino

Riserva Ducale Oro Gran Selezione Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2020

Deep Ruby color with aromas of dark fruits, spice and toasty oak. On the palate flavors of cherry, blackberry and plum with spice, herbs, cacao, tobacco and toasty tones from 18 months of oak aging. Full ripe tannins you can bite into, long finish ending with fruit and an earthy toasty spice character. Nice! Will age! — a day ago

Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir

Wonderful nose. Velvety in the pallet with a nice finish. Not a big Pinot Noir person, but this is great. Enjoying it with fish and shrimp at Roy’s in Maui. — 12 days ago

Monte De Oro

Simplexity Red Wine 2020

The nose bursts and fills the room with strawberry and spiced dark cherry aroma. The palace pops with a dense fruit forward and mild spiciness. I would have thought it was primarily a Zinfandel but the label says no - it only has Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec. The finish is moderately long and well balanced. I lean towards more earthy old world earthy profiles and this is a much more new world fruit forward wine than I prefer. — 7 months ago
